plastic table cloth

Today i was making a mess with my mother on the kitchen table making toys.
When we where cleaning i mentioned that i had to clean the cages today,and how they always superglue the newspaper to the cage,if only it was as easy as the table cloth.
Then i realized why not ,just buy a plastic table cloth cut it in pieces and easy cleaning.
my cages have crates so it wouldn't hurt them.
My question is:are there others here that do this?is it indeed easy?
Or is this unrealistic.

Can I ask why you have the "superglue" problem with the newspaper? Don't you take outt the newspaper every day? I never have a problem with paper stuck to the bottom of the cage. But I have to say - I only have the one bird in the cage, I line his cage with about three layers of paper and clean out the papers at least once a day but more often, twice a day.

I'm not sure I understand your plan? Do you wish to replace tthe newspaper lining the bottom of the cage with plastic sheeting (table cloth) cut to size? And then wash it each time you clean the cage? Sounds messy to me - washing off the poop! LOL

. Much easier to just toss the papers away IMO.

I would be afraid that my birds would be able to get to the table cloth and ingest some. I also don't have problems with the paper being glued to the bottom, we change it every day

No matter how good you glue the plastic down, moisture always have a way to get underneath it making a place for mold and bacteria to grow. It's easier to just toss the paper and wash the pan when you need to.

I also use paper, I get the packing paper from U-haul, it works great, cut to a manageable size, no colored ink so I can keep watch on poop colors. Reminding myself when I have fed black fancy rice or pomegranates so I don't freak out! Changed daily.

my birds take a bath almost every day when i am at work,so it's already super glued when i come home.
I want to cut it into sizes and put it in the pan not glue it on and just take it out every day replace it with a spare clean one en wash that one for the next day.
Their is a 5-7cm gap between the crate and the pan my birds can't get to it.
or just a piece on the spot where it always super glued.
Or maybe i am using too less layers.

I find that if you use the advertising part of the paper and use it on the part where they have more mess. It really helps. So I don't have to deal with paper sticking to the pan.

Also forgot to mention, they have those plastic stick ons for kids when they eat at the table. That would be something you could use.

That is a great idea,it just one area in both cages,where they bathe.

Or PUL (polyurethane laminate) fabric works too- it's used a lot to make cloth diapers for babies because it's waterproof on one side and cloth on the other....it's washer and dryer safe too so it's reusable.

Ooh, I understand now! When I got Percy's new cage, I worried about rust as a result of the bottom getting wet. I cut a big piece of heavy duty cardboard and covered it in plastic. I use this at the bottom of his cage under the newspaper. It works like a charm because it is easy to remove and wipe down if necessary. I re-wrap the carboard once a month with fresh plastic.

An added advantage is that if Percy drops a toy, the cardboard layer softens the sound a bit - a good idea because we both jump if a toy hits the bottom of his cage LOL!

I am glad I found this post. I just finished asking a question in the cages section about using canvas that painters use to prevent damage to floors from spills. I was going to cut a bunch of cage sized pieces and then machine wash them. I have two washing machines so I think it could work. I may also try the plastic table cloth idea to. I could get all the paper I want from the grocery store I work at but My main concern is trying to make a little less of an environmental impact.

I have been using old receiving blankets on the floor under the boing to catch all the poop and whatever else...so I just wash them and reuse over and over -they're stained, which is why I want to try the PUL because if you put it laminate side up, I would assume the poop wouldn't stain and could actually just be rinsed off in the sink before throwing them in the washer. I have some PUL scraps I can give it a try with...see how it holds up.

I love the idea of a renewable resource. If it works out for you, please let me know. I may try the vinyl tablecloth first. I am going to cut it to fit and wash it outside when it gets dirty. It looks easy enough to clean and sanitize.

i bought the cloth last week.
i put it under the newspaper,works like a charm no glue sticking!
