I wasn't quite sure where to put this thread, so I'll put it here. I'm home right now, secretly staying up late as I shop for parrot items to buy tomorrow.:54: I always usually buy from DoctorsFostersandSmith. The only complaint I have for them is I can't buy their large, fun looking items because I only have a little Cockatiel that is very picky on his toy and perch items. The things I do for him.:p

But I wanted to try buying a few items at a different store. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? I'm really excited for my shopping day tomorrow.:D

Do you reccomend their homemade parrot food mixes? They look interesting, but they don't seem like they could be reccomended over pellets....

We feed bulk 21 unsulphurated and TOPS or couple are getting picky and we are trying rowdy bush pellets.

I feed Ivory TOPS and switch out Higgins and Golden feast mixes.

Combined it's an awesome parrot dry diet.

Okay! I shall buy those, then. I might have to switch TOPS to Zupree, though. So far, Zupreem is the only pellet he will eat. I can't blame him, though. He was fed only seeds for 5 years before he was rehomed to me.

Quick question, do you think he would gladly eat the Small Hookbill bulk mix, or would it be like transferring to pellets? I know you order the other bulk, but in your experience with that sort of food, do you think it will be easy?

Research this site and the internet. Buy toys only from bird people that understand toy safety and have birds of their own that they love. Just because a merchant seems reputable or well-intentioned is not a guarantee they are. Almost everything is made in China and the metal can contain the deadly zinc and lead. Avoid metal bells unless you know they are stainless steel. You can test with a magnet. Stainless is not attracted. Hope this helps.

I typically shop at My Safe Bird Store. You'll never regret shopping from here! Everything is packaged up in paper, so it's like opening up a box of gifts! Plus there's usually a few finger trap toys/treats thrown in for the birds and some candy for you!!!! :D Before I got Jayde, I made a $200 purchase from this store (food and toys) and half the stuff came in "new baby gift bags".

I recently made a purchase from The Birdsafe Store which was alright.

Here's some other stores that I've heard are also great! (need to order from some of them, too!)

California Bird Nerds
Chopper's Toys
Crystal's Bird Toys
I Got A Woody Bird Toys
Mother Pluckin' Bird Toys
Oliver's Garden Bird Toys
Parroteelia Bird Toys
Things for Wings
TNT Bird Toys

Bird on the Rocks

(hope all the links work, not sure that they are all still valid though!)

Okay, I have to admit I didn't order anything until earlier tonight. I've been busy busy busy. But I just ordered from MySafeBirdStore!!!!!! I can't wait for the package!:D I spent a lot because everything looked so cool!!!:32: I have to say that the shipping was a little pricy(to me) but it wasn't too bad and all the other prices made up for it.

And thanks for the picture! It looks like she actually cares! Which is great, because in other stores I don't think it's too common. But your picture just doubled my anticipation!

I have a few questions though.

1) I accidentally forgot I have no minutes on my phone! Will that effect anything? O3O

2) And I chose the cheapest shipping route. Should I have ordered the more pricier ones perhaps?

I usually try to order enough items that I get free shipping! And if I don't get free shipping, then I'll sometimes ship the items to a commercial address to save on shipping. (used to always ship to my old work for that reason! I can still ship items there for the discounted shipping prices, too). I always choose ground! (cheapest method)

Once you get your package, you'll have to post photos of you opening the box! ;)

Not having minutes on your phone shouldn't be an issue as long as your payment method goes through, you have the correct address down, and the delivery company can find your address!

I've also heard stark raves about the other stores I've mentioned, so don't forget to check them out! :D I think I need another toy order, anyway! ;)

I recently had the pleasure of going to Bird Paradise in NJ. It is truly AWESOME!!! The outside of the building is so misleading. I was not prepared for how HUGE it is in there. Room after room after room of floor to ceiling bird toys, as far as your eyes can see. We spent hours looking through everything. They have every toy you could imagine, but I ended up stocking up on toy making accessories, of which their selection is also quite vast. They also have tons of cages and java tree stands for sale. They do grooming and sell all types of food. I was blown away.
I must also mention that their birds were spectacular. All seemed healthy, happy and well taken care of.
I just realized this sounds like a review. It's not. I just had a real nice time shopping there. It's over an hour and a half from us, so we made a day out of going there to shop and have lunch, and we are looking forward to doing it again soon :)

Hmmn...would shipping to a post office be commercial? Lol And okay! Actually, I didn't order a lot apparently, since I forgot to add my other items to the cart! But,I will order my second package after this one arrives. I wanted to order a few more toys, perches, and some pellets.

I will post a picture once I get the box! I'mexpecting to wait another few days, since I ordered the cheap shipping.

And I wish I could visit the store in person! It would be an awesome experience. But, sadly, I live too far away.

I forgot to mention about the daily/weekend deals at My Safe Bird Store. I am signed up to their email list and they usually send out emails daily about their daily specials, and they have weekend special as well that usually last 2-3 days, sometimes 4! Hope you signed up for it as well!

If not, you can always see their Deal of the Day from the store.

Okay, so I'm very curious about the question I had to answer on the checkout form. It asked if I had a dog, cat, or both? :0 is she going to give them a treat/toy/or whatever for them? Or was it totally random? Lol.
