Finding a breeder in Washington

I can't seem to find a breeder close to where I live in Washington state. I was thinking of buying at Petco, since the Petsmart near me doesn't have Cockateils, but everywhere says to buy from breeders. Problem is I live in Arlington and there aren't any that raise Cockateils that aren't 50+ miles away. Anyone know if there are any in the area I might have missed? I have done a lot of looking into this. Like I said there are breaders, but just not ones for Cockateils.

Have you looked on birdbreeders. com? Seems there are a few cockatiel breeders in Washington- or if you're open to having one shipped you could probably easily pick it up at Sea-Tac.

I also googled "parrot rescues in Washington" and found a few, not sure if they're close to your area, but I'm sure you could find something in the Seattle area.

Yes I have tried that site. All of the breeders are located rather far from me, 60+ miles, and I am not comfortable driving that far, especially since the traffic in Arlington and the area around it is so light and it is so heavy closer to Seattle where they all are.

As for the rescues, I'm going to call the two ones closer to me, but their sites don't list Cockateils so I don't think they will have any.

Unless the rescues deal mainly in medium and large parrots, they may very well have cockatiels. It's very easy for a rescue to become over-run with cockatiels and budgies because there are so many of them!

One local rescue near me has only medium and large parrots. Another has an aviary of budgies and maybe a few larger birds?

Sometimes breeders do advertise on Craigslist. Found someone in Lynnwood looking to sell a young female cockatiel as their pair will be reproducing. (does not appear to be a reputable breeder... rather a pet owner that's allowing their tiels to reproduce)
Grey Cockatiel $80!!!!

Although I did find a bird store not too far away from you... looks like they sell cockatiels.

It surprised me that a Cockatiel from anywhere (breeder, rescue, pet store) is so hard to find  as they are a very plentiful species in every part of the US, if not the world.
If a cockatiel is what you want, I'm sure that you'll find one soon. You can find just about any animal species/breed if you keep looking. Look in your local ads too... So many people breed cockatiels or have one they want to give to a good home, that one will come along soon enough. Let us know when you do. Good luck!
