Hi!

I'm new to owning my own conure, but have worked with them for over two years. I just noticed my little skittles somehow slid his legband up over his "knee joint" and it's stuck up there. When I touch it he screams and bites me but when im not touching it it doesn't seem to bother him.

What can I do or what should I do?

It's the middle of the night so I cannot get to the vet until the morning.. I have never seen this before and I don't want to try to cut it or force it down..

If he's using his leg normally I would wait until morning, take him in ASAP and have it removed by the vet. As long as its not cutting off the circulation hell be ok for the night. Don't be surprised if he re-positions it himself. Those bands are such a nuisance and a potential hazard.

If you can use some olive oil to slip it back in the right place it would be ok for the time being and then have it removed by a vet tomorrow. If you can't slip it back you need emergency vet to have it removed cause it can cause permanent damage and cut off circulation which can be very bad.

Mikey gave some good advice above. It's definately a two-person operation where he'll have to be toweled if he's going nuts about you touching it.

It doesn't seem to be cutting off any circulation or bothering him. He's very grumpy because it's past his bed time and I just noticed and took him out so that could be why he's yelling.

I'm going to try to slide it down with some oil, is organic coconut oil safe to use on his feet?

Yes organic coconut oil is safe! Use a towel to hold him down while you do this.

Good luck. Yes, have it removed. My birds' vet practically insists on removing leg bands. It's because he's seen too many times the things that could happen.

It tend to happen so it's nothing unusual for it to slip over.
