I think Sterling 1113 has a great idea. The dishwasher will sterilize them. Sounds like your toys will take the heat. I wouldn't use any soap and you can take them out before the dishwasher drying cycle begins to put them in the sun :)

Yup, as long as it's not going to fall to the bottom where the heat coils are at(if it's an old dishwasher) then it should be fine. And Mrs.Kay has the right idea. I take them out when the drying cycle starts since sitting in steam does nothing for drying wood. ;)

For washable toys I spray with my professional avian veterinary cleaner (kills everything), and either rinse with water, or put in hot dishwasher with no soap of course.

Pieces that are dyed bright colors like wood or rope, you'll find these colors will fade to nearly nothing in the dishwasher.

Some things like certain shreddable toys or paper really can't be sanitized.

What kind of toys are these? What are they made of? You could get some cleaner made for birds, the rinse with water to "clean".

In order to "sanitize" you'd need to buy some virucide cleaner. The one I have isn't sold anywhere else - it was developed by my avian vet. There is one called F10.

Lol, I was actually thinking microwave if there wasn't metal parts. Then I thought of it catching fire maybe... :52:

That's how to sanitize sponges. Wash all soap out, get it wet and microwave for 2 minutes.

I would not bake them. Baking certainly won't clean them.
Try gently boiling them. Material, straw, anything that won't melt. Place in the sun to dry.
If afterwards they are discolored or disfigured, you can possibly use some of the sterilized parts to make new toys :)

You could get that disenfectent from your vets, spray it, soak it and then put it in the oven.

Yes , baking will work. Why does boiling work to kill germs/bacteria? Could it be because of the heat?? I often bake wooden toys and perches. Just use common sense.

Baking... At what temperature do we know will 1) be hot enough to kill everything 2) cool enough to not catch on fire. Also for how long? Are we talking about wood? I don't think I'd put wicker in.

I remember reading 180F is hot enough to kill everything, and a hot cat in summer time (here in Texas anyway) is enough. Just leave it for a few hours. May want to wash with a small amount of dish soap first
