Need help identifying new pet!

I'm American but currently stationed in Germany.

I just bought a bird yesterday, and I need help identifying him. The place I bought him from had him listed as simply "Gross Sittiche" (German for Big Parrot) I didn't realize that's what it meant and thought it was the species. Brought him home and realized that of course, nothing is listed as just that. He is appx 11 inches in length. Bright green breast and head (almost yellow!) with a vibrant colored orange beak (top and bottom). the feathers on his wings are a dark shade of green, black, yellow, and red. His tailfeathers are immaculate, over half of his total size. They are black, with a little bit of light blue mixed in.

I was at first thinking he's an Eclectus but I have been able to find none in my research with such long tailfeathers, nor this bright shade of green. Any suggestions?

I would add a picture but my daughter (4 years old) has apparently misplaced my camera. ugh!

Thanks for any and all help!

Re: Need help identifying new pet!

Hi there, great forum, with lovely members.
Very difficult to try identify a bird, from a description, without a picture.
Any background information on the bird?
When purchasing the bird, did you adopt it, was it from a breeder, a pet shop or a private sale. Any idea how old the birds is, were no papers given to you?.
Sorry so many questions, just curious.
Hopefully other members will be able to assist, with the description.

Re: Need help identifying new pet!

Wish we had a pic! With such long tail feathers it is either a species of conure or macaw.

Re: Need help identifying new pet!

There were absolutely no papers given to us, it was from a German pet store/garden store. He's absolutely beautiful! Wish I could get a picture....

Re: Need help identifying new pet!

The closest I could come after a few google searches is the Perfect Lorikeet... but that still doesn't quite match your description.

Re: Need help identifying new pet!

The Perfect Lorikeet is rather close, but like you said - not it. The tail feathers you see in the picture are in deed that dark - and rather long... I just can't place him!

Re: Need help identifying new pet!

Also, he has really bold colors on his wings. and the Perfect Lorikeet seems more monochromatic.
