bonding

Hey all,

So I have a green-cheek conure who is about 6yrs old. I also have two parakeets. The conure is very attached to me but does not bond with the parakeets at all, even after about two years.

A friend knows of someone she works with who is looking for a good home for a senegal parrot and asked if I would be interested. At first I said no, but after thinking about it, I would really like to find a bird my green-cheek would bond with. I give her several hours of attention every evening but feel bad that she is basically alone all day while I am at work as she will have nothing to do with the parakeets.

The senegal is about one year old and we’re not sure about the sex. From what little I have seen and heard it does well with both people and other birds. So I’m hoping some of that would rub off on my green-cheek.

I would also probably give the parakeets to my parents as they have a cockatiel and a sunroom the parakeets love to fly around in when I am out of town. So it would just be the green-cheek and senegal at my place.

I know there is a good chance my green-cheek just will not bond with another bird, but I wanted to ask and see if anyone thought there might be a better chance she would bond with a bird like a senegal vs the parakeets.

TIA,
-Nathan

Hi Nathan, welcome to a wonderful friendly forum, with fantastic members.
Many interesting posts to view, many tips etc.
Not familiar with the green-cheek conure , or the parakeets. SORRY
Many experienced guardians dealing with the above mention birds will give fantastic advise.
Enjoy your stay

Thanks for the warm welcome antoinette. I have posted on some other forums as well but I'll keep watching in hopes someone might have some insight.

Can you try introducing the GCC and the senegal before you decide? Seeing how they react to one another may give you a good idea of whether they will get along.

They need not be buds right away - that takes time, but if they are interested/intrigued by the other one's presence that would suggest they will interact.
