Hello everyone,

Me and Yasef is getting along well. It has been almost three weeks since we are together.

Couple of times came out of its cage, flew around, enjoyed several different spots around the dining and the living room.

I managed to put him back by using the spare perch. Last time it was difficult though. He did not want to step up the perch by biting and stepping back. Finally right at the edge of the ironing table, he made a choice to step up i/o falling back.

Anyway, my question is that he enjoys his cage and most of the time, although the cage door is open, he does not want to come out.

I have no problem to get close to him. But soon or later he bites my finger or attempts to bite. I use the back side of my hand also I do not pull back my hand. I also leave the room and come back later. I pet his beak though for a while until he tries to chase my finger.

  • How can I have him to give up from biting attempt?(besides all the tricks I have been reading and watching through the internet).
  • How can ı have him to come out from his cage more often and step up to my hand? (at least see the progress as the days pass by)
Thanks.

Yusuf

It sounds like your bird is trying to communicate with you, and you are ignoring him. You say you pet him until he tries to bite, clearly he doesn't like you doing it, so why do you insist? The first step is to take a moment and realize that your bird is not a toy, he is a living being and deserves respect. The next step is to learn to read his body language and see when he doesn't like something. Then, if he doesn't like it, don't do it. That is how you build trust, and trust is the main thing to stop a bird from biting you.
