Good day everyone

Would like to know, i bought some course sandy perches at the pet shop. it's wooden perches painted with a course sandy paint. My question is that i would like to make my own perches , does anyone have the recipe for the sand coating going over the perch? Riley does not like having his nails trimmed, and these perches work very well.

Here is some pics, not the same but with the same coating

Like Strudel, I do not have a recipe either, but painting a stick/branch with an epoxy adhesive, then rolling in sand might get you what you're looking for.....you will probably have to do several test pieces to determine which particular mix would work the best, but keep in mind that you will want to to keep the top and/or bottoms smooth.....sandy surfaces on the fleshy pads of a bird's toes/feet can abrade/irritate them.....

While you don't want to mix the epoxy around your bird(s), once the adhesive is thoroughly dry you should be OK, epoxy adhesive is available in 3 minute, 5 minute and longer setting times, I would think that the 3 minute variety might be a good choice.....Good luck.....

Thank you for the advice. Which brand of epoxy adhesive is safe for birds?

Actually, none of it is safe until mixed and thoroughly cured, then I think I would carefully wash of any un-mixed residue.....

I'm not sure about making your own sandy perch, but I have one, and it doesn't work to file nails at all! I have 2 birds who regularly use it and they're of different foot sizes too, so it's not the size. All I know is it doesn't work.
