Are canned Sweet Potatoes safe? I see that they have sugar and corn syrup in them so I thought I'd ask in advance. Is there anyway to remove it?

Many canned foods have sugar & sodium enhanced contents.....ostensibly to make them taste better, but you can find sugar & salt free canned foods.....you can usually nuke or bake fresh sweet potatoes for the same price or cheaper than sugar/salt free canned foods.....as the sugar/corn syrup & sodium are added as part of the canning process, I really doubt there is any way to remove them from canned foods.....sorry.....

You can, but why would you when fresh is better for them AND cheaper!

Next time you're cooking just toss one in the oven, cut it up into chunks and freeze it. They nuke really well.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Sweet potatoes and yams are among the "universal" foods nearly all my parrots love. Ranks right up there with corn, and far more nutritions!

I nuke them in the microwave, allow to cool, and cut into chunks to join the other goodies in their treat-bowls.

One large sweet potato generally lasts a good 3-4 days around here when you cut them up into bite sized squares. And they each get 3-4 of those squares a day - and ZERO chance of vitamin A disorders cuz they suck that stuff down.

Just like formula be sure to check nuked potatoes for hot spots! We don't want any burned crops!

Mine too. Don't have a single bird that won't suck down every bit of it. Easy to prepare, freezes well, reheats well... can't go wrong!

Zilla must be the exception to this "universal" rule. The only time she will touch a sweet potato, yam, squash or anything of the like is if I am eating it and I make a HUGE deal of how yummy it is and then feed her bites off my plate with my fork!!!!

My zons barely even bother to chew that stuff...

That and Salmon are the two things they just get a beak full, put their heads straight back, and swallow...

My zons and ANYTHING POTATO... it doesn't matter what.

Baked, mashed, fried, chipped, you name it they'll eat it!

Since I've only had her a month I think she is teaching me how she wants things to be. Or rather how things were where she came from, and there wasn't much in the way of healthy food there! She is learning to eat more healthy foods, but to get her to eat them I have to eat them! And she is too smart to fall for my tricks of pretending to eat them, I have to really be eating them for her to eat them. :D

I had a cashier ask why I was buying two okra, I laughed and explained who it was for and she thought it was neat. I buy fresh. He has stolen my corn and other things from my plate. He loves sweet potato too.

I bought 3 green beans the other day (well tried to, they didn't weigh enough to register on the scale so the cashier just gave them to me) She thought it was cool of me to buy them for my bird.
