I will be bringing a parrot home in a little bit over a week And I have been working on replacing the pans in my kitchen but finding descent bakeware has proven to be quite tough. I'm looking for like muffin tins and cookie sheets, does anyone know of a brand that would be okay? I was considering nordicware because it's aluminum but then I saw that, that has a coating on it too.

Nordicware's FAQ web page states: PTFE (an entirely different compound than PFOA) is the material that gives nonstick surfaces their “slipperiness” and is widely used in consumer cookware coatings, including many of Nordic Ware’s stovetop cookware products.

Since they do not deny that they are using that particular surfactant, I read their statement that they still use it and since PTFE and PFOA are compounds proven to be dangerous to birds, I think you have your answer, however, you could either E-mail them or send them a letter via regular mail, asking them specifically if a particular product contains either a PTFE or PFOA coating of any kind.....

There are numerous stainless steel bakeware, by various manufacturers, that are free of PTFE or PFOA coatings.....you can also easily find aluminum products without any of these coatings.....

Actually I have been to about every store in my area looking for aluminum bakeware with no coating but I have found nothing, I would have assumed by looking at it that the Nordic ware would have been just aluminum but when I looked at their website it said it did have a coating which is why I came here to see if anyone had any suggestions on a particular brand that is known to not have a coating and be safe. The other one I found was the mainstays uncoated pans at Walmart. I thought they might work But they aren't aluminum or stainless steel so I wasn't sure about them. It doesn't say what they are made of on the package but on the website it says electrolytic tin plate steel.

I have Nordiware bakeware (aluminum) from their "naturals" line. Nordicware does produce non-stick bakeware, but it's marketed as such and states it is non-stick in the description, which the aluminum bakeware does not. Here's a link to their aluminum line that is NOT non-stick: https://www.nordicware.com/store/category/naturals#.VGoMxr64nC8

Okay, thanks. I think I will probably end up getting nordicware for the time being then. I was reading the website and I saw the stuff about the coating and wasn't even thinking that, that probably only applied to their non stick stuff. I'm just so nervous about bringing a parrot into my home.

Just did a quick look-see & if you have a Sears, JC Penny or Kmart in your area, they all show stainless steel baking items available, also Amazon appears to offer a large selection.....

Many of these new coatings are ceramic or are being called ceramic, but in any event, as long as they do not have PFOAs or PTFEs in them, they'll be OK as Teflon coatings are going away next year & I seriously doubt you'll find any offered any longer, though someone might try dumping their remaining stock at bargain basement prices.....

If you do opt for any of the ceramic products, be sure you DO NOT USE metal utensils & follow manufacturer's cleaning instructions.....
