So, I was at the pet store earlier buying my dog some food, when I noticed this adorable little "pineapple" conour looking at me through his cage. He looked at me with immense curiosity and I was just as curious about him.

After taking him out of his cage and discovering how tame and sweet he was, I immediately knew I wanted him. But, since the only other birds I've owned have been a set of finches and a parakeet, I do have some questions and this seems to be the best place to ask.

First off, I sleep with my room (and entire house for that matter) very cold, usually 67F. How will this effect him? Is this temperature too low for him?

Second, what sort of treats could I give him? I remember when I had my parakeet my grandmother always told me that only feeding her seeds was not good for her, so what can I feed him that he would like and would also be healthy for him?

And third, he seems to have this biting thing going on. He doesn't bite hard at all so I know it's not in an aggressive way, it's almost similar to a baby teething. He bites EVERYTHING. The man at the pet store said he was between 9 and 12 weeks old, so it this normal?

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!!

Beautiful little baby! Congratulations on your new little guy, seems like you two were meant for each other :)

I'm not very sure on the temperature part, but if you're worried, a nice beach towel or blanket over the cage can help keep him warm.

For the treats, I love using Nutri berries (in small moderation). If you plan on an entire fresh food diet (highly recommended) i dont see why pellets or some sunflower seeds can't be used, again just make sure it's in moderation and doesn't overwhelm their diet.

Congratulations on your new beautiful baby!

I am a new conure owner, and new bird owner for that matter. I am not as experienced as many here but can share my experiences over the past few weeks.

Bodhi is a nibbler as well. He loves to nibble on everyone's shirts in particular! But he nibbles on ear lobes, (my earrings are somewhat problematic), checks, his perches, my couch etc. Not that I am an expert, but I have concluded that since conures are such social birds, they are "social grooming".

With regards to treats, I think it is basically trial and error to find what he really enjoys. Bodhi goes absolutely crazy for white grapes. Likes apples, crackers, and my son has given him not so healthy food (chips). We are still working on getting him to eat veggies.

Hi there! Welcome to the forum! Your new friend is adorable, I see why you couldn't resist taking him home.

It's normal for birds as young as yours to approach everything beak first, he's exploring and learning. Now would be an excellent time for pressure training. Interact with your bird regularly and always keep the sessions positive, he will build confidence and learn to trust you so that biting never becomes an issue.
