It was only a matter of time, but I've caught MBS and have been wanting to add a second bird to our flock. With my birthday conveniently a few weeks away, my husband has given the green light to, "appease my birthday wishes." He has admitted he would also like another, but is proving to be the difficult one. We discussed the conure needing a home in the adoptions section, but he's not what my husband is wanting, so the search continues. I don't have a specific species in mind that I just have to have but I am drawn to Asiatics. I've never bought from a breeder, but came across some adorable 4 month old, fully fledged moustached parakeets for a very reasonable price. I've talked with the breeder and we've asked each other lots of questions, but the one issue I have is she's pretty persistent that we need to buy two because she doesn't think most birds do well singly. I made it clear I am only interested in one and she still wants to set up a meeting, but that was a bit of a red flag to me. What difficulties, if any, have you had buying from a breeder? We came across Clover by chance and instantly clicked, so we haven't actively searched for the right bird before. Any suggestions, tips or stories about finding your babies are appreciated!

My friend has a young Moustache (just one) and she does just fine without another one.

I've never had (or heard of) where a breeder tries to push more than one baby at a time. You have to wonder if it's either about the money or she has a lot of them and lack of buyers and needs to 'get rid of them'. Idk, but it's not necessary. Just like any other Asiatic, they're fine single. Just like your Alexandrine is. Besides, the breeder knows you have another bird?

I wasn't sure if it was a breeder thing, since I've never dealt with bird breeders. She only has 3 babies and asked me lots of questions, implying she doesn't want them going to just anybody, but the needing two philosophy is wearing me out since I don't agree with it. She does know I have an Alex, which I informed her is singly kept, happy and healthy!

So she has 3 babies, and wants you to take 2 because its "better for the birds"....ok so what happens with the 1 baby she has left? She is ok THAT one going alone?

Seems silly.
