When Gollum was home for two days, I gave him a shower in the sink. We have a faucet that can act like a shower head. Anyhow, he just stood under the water. He didnt try to get away but he didnt ruffle his feathers or wings. I have watched lots of videos of birds and how they shake and ruffle and stretch wings etc. I thought it was because he was young or scared. So yesterday I tried the mister I bought. I got the kind that actually pumps and creates a really fine mist. Once again he didnt do anything. He actually walked away from it but still didnt preen or anything after. Is this normal?

Plenty of birds don't like baths. Doesn't mean he still doesn't need to be bathed. Have you made sure the water was lukewarm (like baby bath temp)? He may just not like ice cold water sprayed on him. He may also just not be used to it/know what it is being he is so young and these may be his first real baths. He may come to love them over time. I would suggest the mister, since it is more gentle, until he's a bit more used to the concept. You can also try setting him in a large, shallow dish of water (like a pie pan) and seeing if he wants to bathe himself:)

My sennies clench their feathers tight when it's bath time. They both hate bathes. I take them in the shower with me and use a water bottle to spray mist. I don't spray it directly on them, but above them so the drops fall on them and they still act like they are being beat. Even with a full bottle of misting only the top layer gets wet. it doesn't get anywhere near their down feathers.

Mine won't have anything to do with bathing in a shallow dish, but occasionally will dunk their heads in their water dish.

That's what my sennie does, he has never had a bath in his life, he is 16. but I bath my pets often especially the birds so he will get a mist bath! So I misted him when he was sitting on his cage and he did the same thing. Sat there. So Im guessing when they have never had a bath before, its really something very new for them! :) But as for my conure, after her bath, there is an lake around her bath bowl and no water in the bowl! She will also bathe on her water bottle... she will rub up against the nosel and she has fun with that. But its not fun to scrounge out all the feathers and such that she stuffs up the nosel with! :D

I did the shower in the sink again today. Same reaction, just stood there. No fluffing. No spread wings. Just an occasional sip from the fountain lol.
Afterwards he just stands there. I have not seen him preen at all in the week I have had him. I am with him all day. So unless he does it at night after I cover the cage... He doesn't preen.

My little gcc loves bathing in his little bird bath and his bowl. But it doesn't cover his back or head so I bring him to the kitchen sink and use the sprayer... He stands perfectly still and gives me a birdie stink eye...

Try a shallow bowl and splash in it with your fingers. The starling likes to bath in a community bath atmosphere.

Foo loves to bath, shower in any water as long as it's ice cold-I've tried warmer water and she acts like it's horrible. So maybe playing with temperatures as well.
