So with the cold weather fast approaching I have to ask.

What types of room heaters do you all use that is bird safe?

I'm a naturally chilly person and hate the cold so I like to set my current one at 74° during the winter. It's a Lasko. But I'm worried about it being in a closed room with the bird and my rats, as they are in my room.

Any suggestions that don't cost a fortune?

The best thing to do before using a heater is to contact the manufacturer to make sure it's bird safe. I think I would definitely get an oil based heater like Weezerj uses if I ever needed one again.

We also used to use an oil based one with no problems (no central heat and the gas furnace was too expensive to run high enough to warm the bedroom). Now we have one of those faux fireplaces. Only thing is first use you need to put it outside and run it for about 30 minutes because of the burnt dust smell (not sure that it's harmful, just doesn't smell very good). Same with the small one we use in the bathroom when we shower.

We have central heat but I use a greater in my room specifically because if it is wanting enough for me, its too hot for my family lol
