Leaving the water bowl in all night.

Hey guys, hows it goin'?

Someone told me that water bowls should NOT be left in bird cages overnight, and he explained that the reason for that is that water gets cold during the night and the bird can catch a flue when drinking from that water!!

Is that true or false?

Personally I leave Hiroshi's water dish in his cage at all times. I change his water in the morning, afternoon and then at night before bed. So far I havn't had an issue...

Never heard this one. As long as the water is clean I see no reason to remove it from the bird cage at night.

Unless your bird is kept outdoors I don't know why the water would get colder, if the air temperature inside your home stays constant so will the water temperature, if you don't use air conditioning and the temperature drops considerably at night I might be able to understand why he might say that, otherwise it makes no sense to me what so ever

I don't know where you heard that, but all the birds that i've fostered and kept, have had their water bowls in their cages all night. Nothing bad has ever happened. Also Toulouse likes her water colder anyhow, and on hot days she will refuse to drink luke-warm water. LOL. I don't understand why cold water would be an issue.

My birds are never without water....I can't imagine that it would cause a problem. When I change the water, it's colder than when it's in the cage for a few hours. Mine love it freshly changed, and I'm thinking it's because it's colder.

Unless you live in the frozen north, this is false. I change chi chis water everyy mourning and at night when he has his bed time snack. I give him bottled water through the day cause the water where I work is questionble.

I never took the water out of my Gandalf's cage. I would change it for him every morning (plus when he threw his food in it...often). It was a ritual as he would say "I need some fresh water".

Room temperature water wouldn't hurt him, and even cold water wouldn't, as long as he didn't need something to drink immediately. Gandalf even liked to lick an ice cube or two while helping himself to a sip of my diet soda (caffeine free of course). "mmmmmm....it's cold". Carbonation and a cold tongue....probably pretty neat in the mind of a curious parrot.

( I just laughed a little when realizing I should have taught him to say "BRAIN FREEZE!")

All one more sensation to give them some intellectual stimulation. Just don't leave them a bowl of icy water, and you'll be fine.

I see no issues with water getting cold. Just make sure you do frequent water changes. My bird likes to throw food in the water and sometimes poop in it. So changing it frequently anyway is a good thing.

Auggie loves cold water - right out of the fridge. There is no way they'll catch a virus from cold water.

But more to the point: if the cage is cold enough to chill the water overnight then it's cold enough that your bird is at risk from the cold, not from the water.

Auggie likes cold water? Funny how parrots differ from one another. My conure, Wrnts, shakes his head like crazy if he tastes something cold. He likes room temperature water. He also tries to bathe himself in it, too. Especially when the vacuum is on. Weird, right? LOL

Cal needs her water changing many, many times a day lol (and her cage!!)

I would think it was cruel to leave any animal without water, it must be awful for them.

Now on the funny side guys,
What if your bird got thirsty during the night, and there was no water available in his cage !!!!!!
Would he walk over to the kitchen and help himself I VERY MUCH DOUBT IT
Makes sense to have water available for a bird 24/7
