Remington has been with us for 5 days, he is 13 yrs old and was raised by one family~ he had a great home, but marrriage/work and 2 small kids did not allow them to spend the quality time they knew the bird deserved, so he is now with us... i have noticed that occasionally he looks like he is shivering, as in scared, i realize it will take time for him to get used to us, but do they quiver when scared? i have not tried to take him out of his cage yet, but he is eating out of my hand and talking, we are taking things slow....maybe its the dogs he is afraid of? i still cant figure out how to post pictures...i have tried following the directions but its not working....

Poor Remington! His world has been turned upside down. Shivering is normal if a parrot is stressed. However, if he is fluffed and shivering he may be ill. Either way, I recommend you get a vet check just to make sure he is ok. Make sure his poops are normal and eating and drinking.

I agree with greycloud, he could be shivering from stress or illness or actually both, sometimes stress can actually trigger some types of disease that may have laid dorment in a bird for years, getting your new fid(fid=feathered kid) a wellness check-up at least once a year is always a good idea, and getting his first one now would be ideal, good luck and when you get a chance please post some pics, we love pics here :)

Is it just the chest feathers that are quivering? I've done some checking on this, as Fred's chest feathers quiver when he's resting and content. I has an African Grey who did the same, while resting.

Both my birds are rehomed rescues. Samantha, Umbrella Cockatoo (HD: 2002)
Lucky, B&G Macaw (HD: 1990-ish?)
That's a beautiful bird and he looks healthy, too. I haven't had my macaw for very long, but both she and my U2 "shiver" in a way similar to what you are descibing.
