Hey guys, I heard that it's dangerous to put an electric heater in the same room that your parrot's in. I heard it can kill him. Is this true?

Some heaters have non-stick materials in them. Take it from me, if you use one of those, it better come with a box of Kleenex to help with the tears.

And don't ever use one that has an exposed element in it. It's a third degree burn or a house fire waiting to happen.

Some heaters can be deadly to birds, those that use bulbs can have a coating over the bulbs using PTFE's and can give off toxic fumes, some that use elements can give off to much heat in small areas with poor heat regulation, and fuel type heaters such as kerosene should never be used indoors period.

heres a link to a great bird heater, not only bird safe but doesn't emit light to keep your bird awake all night......

There are bird safe heated perches. I have one and use it in the very cold parts of winter. Rosie Alexander loves it.

That is BRILLIANT.

Thankyou so much. Cal had cold feet the other evening and she used me as a heated perch lol. Weather is starting to come in here. We have central heating but I will be purchasing one of these for sure!

Looks like I'll have to import one from the US so best get cracking!

Thanks Spiritbird but I think i'd rather get an electric bird safe heater. The reason being, my room is in the basement, so it get's colder than the rest of the house especially in Winter. I'd love to have a heater in my room just because I'D like to have one. But then If I got a bird safe heater i'd be able to kill two birds with one stone by keeping the room nice and cozy and Keeping the birds warm AND safe! Don't worry, Kiwi and Peeps both have birdie tents and snuggle corners. :D The main reason i'd like the heater is to heat my room so my brother and I won't be freezing when it REALLY get's cold. ;)

Oh btw I asked this at just the right time, our electric heater really needs to be replaced with a new one, i'm gonna ask my Mom and Dad if we can instead order these bird safe ones. :)

Hey SA ladies - do shops even know what these products are in SA? You guys/gals are so lucky to live in countries like USA and England where you have so many products for sale - Im looking for a bigger cage for Rosie and everything seems to only go in one size for small birds. I look on the net and get so jealous - haha. What about oil heaters??
