My cats are driving me crazy with the spring weather. I wonder if it is safe to use cat pheromones around birds to calm the cats down?

I have to do further research on the ingredients and wouldn't use the ones that contain essential oils like lavender. The pheromones come in a spray, diffuser , and a cat collar. Of course they would be used outside my bird room but a cat will occasionally walk through the bird room when I forget to latch the door.

Yes I am well aware of the dangers of owning cats and birds. They are never in the same room unsupervised. All I want to know is if anyone has had any experience of using the pheromones in the same house as birds. I would appreciate your experience and knowledge.

There are just so many issues with airborne chemicals and their effect on the air sacks of a parrot that IMHO, its just not worth it. The cat collar has some merit since the release is 'likely' much less and the spread away from the cat would be much less. Even with the collar, keeping the cats and parrots away from each other will be very important.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Just needed someone else's opinion.

I wouldn't even waste my money on those collars! My roommate got some for his cat, and all it did was flake off everywhere. No real change in the little guy's behaviour... but that's just my experience.

I am not sure about the safety of the sprays, sorry. :(
