Baby Macaw Question

Hey all!

I recently purchased a baby macaw (hatch date: 6/28 :D:D) from a reputable breeder, but I haven't received any updates on baby's progress. I put the deposit down the first week of July and at the time they said we could meet in two weeks. I contacted them last week about meeting/getting pictures and they said maybe in a week or two.

I don't mean to be harassing them over a picture/meeting - I am just very excited to see baby grow! I haven't dealt with a breeder of large parrots before so I am def not sure what to expect. Can anyone chime in with similar experiences so I can RELAX? Thanks for any help!

I've had this experience before, and it all was fine - but I'm not guaranteeing anything. You said the breeder was reputable, in what way do you mean this? (do you know anyone thats bought birds from them, good reputation etc). I would trust the breeder and wait the two or three weeks (no matter how painful it might be! :D ). If they postpone still, I would be a little more weary. I'm sure all will be ok! Wishing you luck getting your Macaw! They're such beautiful birds, and make great pets!

Thank you so much for your response! The breeder has been posting pictures of other babies that have hatched since my bird did, so being told it's too young for pictures was testing my patience haha.

Also - I had several people recommend this breeder and their reviews everywhere are pretty high. It's just the oddness of the situation (too young for pics) that made me wary.

I've never adopted my macs from a breeder as they are both rehomes. If you know others that have purchased birds from this breeder before then I'm sure all is fine. But if they keep postponing I would then question that. How far are they from you? If the delays continue, just tell them your concerns so they understand where you are coming from. :)

Thanks for your response! About a half hour drive or so. Their cages were really clean and their birds looked great, which is why I went with them versus anyone else that is local. I'll shoot her another text when he's a month to set up a time to meet... hopefully she's just been too busy with her other birds :)

a half hour drive isn't bad at all! I think you have a good plan! Can't wait to see pics! :D
