Hello!

This is my first post on this site, so I'm praying to god I'm in the right place as far as forums go. If not, let me know and I'll delete!

So, I have been researching over and over and I've pretty much exhausted every link online, so now I'm looking for personal opinion and experiences.

I am currently saying no to Cockatoos, large Macaw's, conures, and amazons. Currently the only large macaw I am saying yes to, is a B&G!

I would like to tell you what I am looking for in a parrot, and see what recommendations you have as far as parrot species go. I am trying to research everything and anything!

Hoping for a medium sized parrot (Caique being the smallest I would go).

I am hoping to have a family one day, so a species that isn't prone to one person bonding would be beneficial (however I am aware you can work with this to better the odds of family socialization)

Noise level isn't a concern, however I would prefer to not have screaming constantly all day. Calls are fine, jibber jabber is completely fine, but a consistent screech isn't exactly what I am looking for.

Affectionate!! I would love a parrot that is active, however every once in awhile will come up and curl with me on the couch. It doesn't need to always be cuddly, but aloofness isn't necessarily a first option for me.

Talking isn't a priority, or really even something I am taking into consideration. If they talk, they talk. If not, it won't affect my decision.

Prone to aggression at sexual maturity does worry me a little, however I know there are ways to work through this so I'm not too worried about it. If there is a bird that handles terrible twos a little better than others, I would love to hear.

Opinions on rescuing are welcome!

Also opinions or experiences with the following species are encouraged!

B&G Macaw
Illiger Macaw
BH or WB Caique
Grey Headed Cape
Greater Jardine
Black Winf Jardine

Again, if a parrot species pops up in your mind when reading what I am hoping for, let me know and I'll indulge in some research. If you have experiences with certain species that wouldn't match my lifestyle, let me know. Any and every opinion or experience with the species listed is encouraged! I am currently debating on the above.

I have worked with parrots of all sizes for 5 years, and am aware of all the necessary care parrots need, and I am also aware each parrot is an individual! So no need to worry, I know what I am getting into! :07:

Please please come and weigh in what you have to say! I cannot wait to read

I can't really give any personal tales but have you considers a hahn's macaw?
I've see a few people post of here about them and they seem lovely from my sideline view.

Where to start, Hmmmm - Oh! Welcome to the Parrot Forums!

Sounds like you have had plenty of experience with Parrots, 5 years if I recall correctly and additional /lots of Web Searching. Seems that you have pretty much defined what you are looking for and really just need to take the next step, right?

At this point, you really need to get bold and go look for the Parrot that Falls in Love with You! That is really the important part of this process! Falling in Love with a Parrot that is really not that into you is really starting a bunch of steps behind. But hey, I'm an Amazon Snob, so what would I know! :D

I would recommend that you go to the MAC Forum and read the first three (3) Threads highlighted in light blue (in reverse order 3, 2, 1) and that will just add to your overall knowledge base.

Remember, the best Parrot for you is the one that Chooses You!

I'm on the same hunt you are except if is for a large macaw exclusively but a Red Fronted Macaw seems like it would be worth checking out for you I wanted one initially but most places have a very long waiting list I was talking BirdMan about them and he said that they are the easiest to train and very affectionate and they seem to be about the same size as a large Amazon.

Ah, you caught me, I'm an over thinker and sometimes suck at moving on to the next step! Guess I better start getting out there!

I have considered a Hans Macaw, but they are fairly small and not really something that grabbed my attention, however I appreciate the idea!

I will definitely check out a Red Fronted!

I totally agree with the parrot choosing you! Trust me, I was not looking for a mature male Amazon and believe me nor was my family! But he chose, so I fell in love.. All that matters in the end.
