Hello!
This is my first post on this site, so I'm praying to god I'm in the right place as far as forums go. If not, let me know and I'll delete!
So, I have been researching over and over and I've pretty much exhausted every link online, so now I'm looking for personal opinion and experiences.
I am currently saying no to Cockatoos, large Macaw's, conures, and amazons. Currently the only large macaw I am saying yes to, is a B&G!
I would like to tell you what I am looking for in a parrot, and see what recommendations you have as far as parrot species go. I am trying to research everything and anything!
Hoping for a medium sized parrot (Caique being the smallest I would go).
I am hoping to have a family one day, so a species that isn't prone to one person bonding would be beneficial (however I am aware you can work with this to better the odds of family socialization)
Noise level isn't a concern, however I would prefer to not have screaming constantly all day. Calls are fine, jibber jabber is completely fine, but a consistent screech isn't exactly what I am looking for.
Affectionate!! I would love a parrot that is active, however every once in awhile will come up and curl with me on the couch. It doesn't need to always be cuddly, but aloofness isn't necessarily a first option for me.
Talking isn't a priority, or really even something I am taking into consideration. If they talk, they talk. If not, it won't affect my decision.
Prone to aggression at sexual maturity does worry me a little, however I know there are ways to work through this so I'm not too worried about it. If there is a bird that handles terrible twos a little better than others, I would love to hear.
Opinions on rescuing are welcome!
Also opinions or experiences with the following species are encouraged!
B&G Macaw
Illiger Macaw
BH or WB Caique
Grey Headed Cape
Greater Jardine
Black Winf Jardine
Again, if a parrot species pops up in your mind when reading what I am hoping for, let me know and I'll indulge in some research. If you have experiences with certain species that wouldn't match my lifestyle, let me know. Any and every opinion or experience with the species listed is encouraged! I am currently debating on the above.
I have worked with parrots of all sizes for 5 years, and am aware of all the necessary care parrots need, and I am also aware each parrot is an individual! So no need to worry, I know what I am getting into! :07:
Please please come and weigh in what you have to say! I cannot wait to read
