I've been trying to find information on my bird for a bit now and I have not had any leads. Most band combinations I see are at least 3 numbers and 3 letters my band is metal that looks painted red and it has 2 letter and 2 numbers. Any one have any info or clue as to where she could come from?

Are the letters an abbreviation of any state, like FL or CA (more importantly are you from the U.S.?)? From what Ive read theres usually a combination of state, import station, year and specific bird ID. I imagine this could vary though.. its a closed band right?

Not that I am aware of. The letters are DW and yes a closed band. It only has those two letter and it follows by only two numbers. I haven't heard of that while searching up leg band so I wasn't sure.

I cant find anything either. Bands vary a lot though, since a lot of the birds sold now are from semi small time breeders or stores and the birds arent imported, where they would be individually logged with the USDA, its hard to find anything if you dont know any of the birds history. Stores and breeders probably just order a bunch of bands with whatever their preferance of marking is. My sun conures band has 3 numbers and thats it. If I didnt personally get him I doubt Id ever find any info. On the bottom of the linked page is a few things you can do. One is a yahoo group that identifies bands, and the other option is calling major band manafacturers and asking if they have sold that band and who the customer was.

Wellllllllllllllllllll... this was 30 years ago, buttttttttttttttttttt...

I traced my bird's band by contacting the clubs and associations around the state. Sure enough, a bit of networking and... voila!
