It had a stamp with AFA and then said FL RBF 9

Can anyone help me with what that means?

Thanks!!

AFA is the aviary name. FL the state where baby was hatched 9 could just be the the number given the species in the clutch. RBF may stand for blue front. I don't know about the R. Could be registered. I will do check a site for you.
I checked to sites and came up empty handed. Try Parrot leg bands on yahoo groups

AFA means it's an American Federation of Aviculture band. The AFA keeps records of all of the bands they issue, but unfortunately the other letters don't mean much ... certainly not the species.

Breeders can order many of these leg bands and they will just have a series of unique letter number codes. When the breeder uses them they file the information on what kind of bird it was placed on and when the band was used.

Thanks for your help... Maybe I should utilize google a little more before I ask a million questions! I found this website Leg Band Registry and entered the information and found his breeder... I'm going to give them a call tomorrow to find out if the 9 means anything. He has been bounced around from home to home so I am curious as to if 5 is his actual age. Thanks again :)

Usually the numbers represent what year they were born but if he is 5 then that don't work out

It could also be the 9th clutch bred that year or by that set of parents
good luck with your search

Sorry for bringing up an Old post and I am sure you've gotten your answer already but this is more for people who are doing a google search and come across this post like I did

The 9 on your birds leg band is not a year - its his ID meaning he was the 9th bird bred to the person

A year always has 2 digits and it always runs sideways down the side of the band - If a state is on the band it will also be 2 letters and run side ways

since this is a society band the letters are different than "private" bands(non society bands) but For future info For people who need to know when its a private band (non society) a band normally looks like this (i'll use mine as a reference)

K&M - my Breeder Initials - of course these vary depending on species they can have several letters one of my birds I bought has a 4 letter Breeder ID code but smaller birds like Canaries/finches their leg bands are not big enough to put a lot of info on them.
IN - Sideways on band - Would be the state - Again the state is Always Sideways
11- sideways - Year bird was hatched -again if the number is NOT sideways it is NOT a year of hatch
25- Birds ID number - 25th Bird bred to me in 2011

Most Private/non society bands in the U.S. are bought through L&M leg bands in California

I'm attaching a picture of My leg bands to help with my explanation above - I know sometimes visuals are better than words =)

here is a list of some of the more common Society/bird club leg bands they would have the 3 letters going sideways like the state/number on the band

“ABS” American Budgerigar Society
“ACS” American Cockatiel Society
“ALBS” African Lovebird Society
“ASC” American Singers Club
“IFC” International Fife Club
“NCA” National Colorbred Association
“NCS” National Cockatiel Society
“NFSS” National Finch & Softbill Society
“SPBE” Society of Parrot Breeders and Exhibitors
"IPS" http://www.internationalparrotletsociety.org/about.html

I finally was able to gain enough trust from Ozzy to maneuver his legband to read it. Now I need help knowing what it means!!!!

Hi my birds legband has FF FL 286. I searched the registry but it didn't come up. I'd like to confirm his hatch date. Thanks for any help identifying his breeder.
