I need to touch up some paint in our family room. A spot where the dry wall was repaired and spots that need touch up after six years the room is about 12'x10'. The paint is no VOC latex. We have an open floor plan so everything is connected. I've read what other people posted. My plan was to put the birds either in a bedroom on the same floor closed off or to the basement which is not closed off. I'm not sure which is better. I planned to take them out in the morning, paint and bring them back a couple hours after it is dry.

Does this sound safe? I haven't painted anything since the birds came to live with us and I'm a bit nervous about it.

If you are in fact only doing a touch-up you should be okay using your plan. I would not take them to the basement, nor to a second floor if you have such.

Anytime you can paint when the weather allows you to open the windows is always a better choice.
