Is this a Weeping Fig? "Ficus Benjamin" If so I will keep my Sun Conure out of it, because this type of Ficus is listed under the toxic plants to birds list. But all the pictures i have found online don't really look like this one, so Im not entirely sure what kind of Ficus tree it is. Please help....This is a very old tree been in the family for over 20 years. Never been sprayed with anything, and is very big! perfect for playing in. "Assuming its the safe kind of Ficus."

Assuming that you are in North American and someplace near a moderate or larger town, there is a Garden Center near by. Taking a cutting into them and they will provide a positive ID of the Plant.

While you are there, talk to them about the care for this plant /brush. It looks like it needs some help. Possibly relocating it near a South facing window, and possible other good health stuff.

I think it's a Ficus aralia... but let's double-check to see if I'm even close...

I live in the United States In Kansas. My father had really preened the heck out of the tree before giving it to me. But your are right the poor thing needs some maintenance. I will snip off a small branch and take it to a lawn and garden place I know of to be sure, that hadn't even crossed my mind. I certainly hope its an ok kind of tree because my bird wants to climb in it really bad.

Ficus benjamina. It's your run of the mill ficus tree.

Ok then it is poisonous to birds, or at least on the "Toxic" list. Does anyone know what part of the tree is bad for the bird? Bark, leaves, everything? ect.....

If it's anything it's the sap. Many people have allergic reactions to the sap when branches or leaves are picked off.

Yes, Chris... benjamina! D'oh!
And I have always heard that the sap is toxic... a quick Google tells me that's the accepted wisdom.

Ok I will keep her off it then. Darn shame too, because its like a 30 year old tree! Would have been perfect for climbing in :(
