So I'm babysitting these two little fluff balls this weekend! They were brought to me in a big container but they are loving my brooder! They were born on the 21st, so they are only 5 days old, and my god are they adorable! They have little diapers that I have now learned are very important! I have zero duck experience but these guys are the sweetest, most adorable little balls of down I've ever had the pleasure of watching! They are following me all over the house, so I took them outside in the yard and they follow me on a straight line, single file! It's adorable!

I'm going to have trouble giving them back to my friend on Tuesday! We're going to eat dinner now, then get our diapers on, snuggle up on the couch, and watch movies all night while I give them scritches! They love it!

My Senegal on the other hand is NOT amused, and is having a time-out in his cage right now, thinking about what he did and why it's not OK, lol...

We just had our very first bath! And we learned about the blow-dryer since we can't waterproof ourselves because we don't get our preen glands working until 4 weeks old. So we played in the water, learned how to dip our beaks, learned how to get grain off the bottom of the bathtub (we absolutely loved this), and we learned how to run in the water and then try to transition to swimming. We need to work on that one a bit. Then we got towel dried, blow dried (they smelled like cotton candy while I was blow drying them 😍), put on our diapers, and now we're snuggling under the blanket on the couch with our new mommie, because there is no way I can give them back to my friend! 😝

Seriously these are the cutest little things I've ever seen.

SO ADORABLE! I'm convinced that when I end up on an acreage I will likely end up having a ridiculous amount of animals because when I see things like this, I can't help but think of how cute they are and how I 100% need one in my life. Love it!

Adorable how ducklings follow single file :). Sitting in diapers and watching tv with you haha that's too cute. I love ducks. Do they make any noise at that age?

Oh yeah, and it's constant! They never stop, even while they are sound asleep they are constantly making these little chirps! They don't "quack" yet at all. They just constantly make these tiny little chirps or "peeps", almost like a chicken chick. They are very soft, not loud at all and honestly it doesn't bother me one bit! The only time they have gotten loud is when I've had them out on the floor and they've been following me around endlessly, always single file, and I have to shut a door foot a couple of seconds to grab something and I don't want them to follow me. Then they start making the same constant "peeps" but they scream them at the top of their lungs! But for the most part they are just making the cutest little peeps that are so adorable!

I have a huge back yard, fenced in with a 7 foot wooden privacy fence. I know what's going to happen here, lol. I've been researching "house ducks" all weekend, which is what my friend is planning on doing with them (I guess her aunt has had a "house duck" for years that is litter box trained)...I'm starting to wonder if my friend will let me buy her two other ducklings so I can keep these guys!

I'm still researching, but so far there aren't any real issues or anything weird about having pet "house ducks". There are even a few companies that make all kinds of pet duck specialty stuff, like diapers, flight suits, diaper harnesses and walking harnesses, specialty duck beds, clothing, it's endless...

Oye..

Sitting in diapers and watching tv with you!
Did not know you were at that point in life!
Hey, if they can get away with it then why not...

They are definitely little poop machines, they are like budgies but their poop is larger and stinkier! But honestly the diapers make it easy, I just pop them off, dump them out, put a new diaper insert in, and we're good!

So I talked to my friend last night, she called to check up on these guys. She had to pick them up on Friday but had a work trip that she couldn't get out of. So she hasn't even spent any time with them yet, and she said if I want them and I agree to take her to get two other ducklings, I can keep these two!

So I had no idea what a Pekin duckling cost, I guess I was thinking like a parrot owner, and I'm going "OK, I really don't want to spend hundreds of dollars right now", then she laughs and tells me they cost $8 a piece! My kind of birds!!! So today is research day, I may convert my huge shed into a little duck play house! Already has power and insulation, just needs some heat and lighting...Hmmm...The possibilities are endless. I can't believe I fell in love with two ducklings, when she first told me she was getting them I was like "Why would you want a duck in your house? They can't be very nice or intelligent."

Yeah, sucked me right in...

I have always loved ducks. I wish the Rb would let me have one or ten.

Yay :D! Greet news you get to keep them... and we get to keep seeing pics as they grow :). $8, hey that's my kind of bird too! Cute that they make all sorts of pet duck stuff. Duck beds haha.

I had no idea about the constant peeps. It makes sense in the wild when they're with their mom. As much as I love birds, I really know nothing about any other kinds of birds besides parrots and finches. I always love seeing ducks. I love the quack sounds, and they're so cute.

Oh my goodness. Now I want a duckling. I cannot have a duckling. I have enough birds. NO MORE BIRDS. Even if they're cute little ducklings.

Sigh.
