Missing Sun Conure, Silver Spring MD: Daisy Flew Away! :(

Yesterday I went to let my dog outside and barely had the door open when a noise spooked my sun conure, Daisy. She flew across the room and out of the door! That was at about 5 pm. I walked around my neighborhood calling to her, saw her once and heard her a few times calling back to me from across the street from my house. We searched until the sun went down and after that called to her every half hour or so. This morning I went to look for her just before sunrise and heard her in a tree in my neighbor's yard. We called back and forth to each other for about 20 minutes, but I never physically saw her, and haven't heard anything since then. I've been checking every half hour to see if I can hear her.

In addition to the walking around and calling to her, my husband and I moved her cage outside and put extra food and water in it. There is a total of three cages with food and water in various places in our yard, as well as two large, colorful perches with toys, food and water on them. My husband put an ad on craigslist for a missing conure with pics and I contacted parrot alert. We are putting up flyers later this afternoon and I will be contacting my local shelters to let them know I am looking for her.

We miss her terribly and want to do everything we can to help bring her home safely! I am not really sure what else to do. I'm afraid if I go too far from my house calling to her, it will only confuse her as to which direction to fly to get home. Is it best to stay close to my house calling to her frequently?

In addition, she hasn't been flying for very long, maybe 3 weeks to a month at most, and I'm not sure she's mastered how to fly down- which doesn't help since most of the trees around me are close to 100ft tall :( Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :/

That is devastating! :(:( I will go and knock by all the neighbors and check their trees especially the one where you thought you heard her. Maybe she is stuck in that tree.:(

ahhh I'm so sorry to hear that.

I hope that you manage to get Daisy home safely. :(

I think any amount of calling would be ok at this stage. Even if she does wander in the sort of general area, she may be closer to the house.

Crossing everything for you.

Thanks for all the kind words and support. We still haven't seen or heard from Daisy since the 22nd. I check craigslist everyday, with three local shelters, parrot alert and still nothing. We posted flyers around the neighborhood and spoke with several neighbors but to no avail as of yet. Her cages are still outside waiting for her. We miss her so much and are hoping for her safe return. Again thanks for all the kind words of support :) I will keep u all posted.
