Yesterday I went to let my dog outside and barely had the door open when a noise spooked my sun conure, Daisy. She flew across the room and out of the door! That was at about 5 pm. I walked around my neighborhood calling to her, saw her once and heard her a few times calling back to me from across the street from my house. We searched until the sun went down and after that called to her every half hour or so. This morning I went to look for her just before sunrise and heard her in a tree in my neighbor's yard. We called back and forth to each other for about 20 minutes, but I never physically saw her, and haven't heard anything since then. I've been checking every half hour to see if I can hear her.
In addition to the walking around and calling to her, my husband and I moved her cage outside and put extra food and water in it. There is a total of three cages with food and water in various places in our yard, as well as two large, colorful perches with toys, food and water on them. My husband put an ad on craigslist for a missing conure with pics and I contacted parrot alert. We are putting up flyers later this afternoon and I will be contacting my local shelters to let them know I am looking for her.
We miss her terribly and want to do everything we can to help bring her home safely! I am not really sure what else to do. I'm afraid if I go too far from my house calling to her, it will only confuse her as to which direction to fly to get home. Is it best to stay close to my house calling to her frequently?
In addition, she hasn't been flying for very long, maybe 3 weeks to a month at most, and I'm not sure she's mastered how to fly down- which doesn't help since most of the trees around me are close to 100ft tall Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated :/
