Trying to feed me

Hi,

I have an indian ringneck, around a year old, and is believed to be a male. He has a black lower beak, and makes his wings into a heart shape and bows to the mirror. However he is not DNA tested, and I'm not too concerned about his gender to be honest (he is purely a companion bird).

The thing is, recently, he has been trying to feed me. As in, actually trying to physically regurgitate in my mouth. I try to keep him away from my face, but say for instance he is walking on the table, he will start pinning his eyes, then try to climb up my top, bobbing his head etc. He has been doing this to the mirror in the living room for a few months now, every so often he will fly over to the mirror and do this for a few minutes, then leave (no mirrors in his cage).

I am hoping that this is just affection, rather than him exhibiting mating behavior, as I am of the understanding that he is too young at the moment, especially as this started in the mirror when he would have been around 9-10 months old. He is my first bird, and I just hope I'm not doing something wrong.

I only ever pet him on his head/neck, however he won't really go to anyone except me, unless for a treat, after which he will fly back to me.

Can anyone shed some light on this please?

Having a bird regurg for you is the birdie equivalent to "I love you."

It's normal.

I've taught mine to eat it themselves.

It's a compliment. When Nigel tries to feed me I change the subject and give him something else to look at or play with. ABC food doesn't appeal to me (already been chewed).
