I often wonder why people join a bird forum and write a thread about what they think may be a really bad problem or situation with their bird(s). Members chime in and give suggestions and then we never hear from the new person again, often leaving those members that really care hanging. Its not only this forum but others also. It just seem the considerate thing to do after a member types up suggestions for the situation the new person wrote about.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Having closure is indeed appreciated - good or bad. I suspect many are reluctant to post the latter from fear of reprisal, censure, or embarrassment. IMO the important consideration is freely giving advice and compassion and being pleasantly surprised when the thread is complete. Archived threads are wonderful experiental tools.

I call them POAR, post once and run, BUT, in their defense, when JoJo came into my life, 12/14, I reached out to several forums, knowing I needed a support group! Major anxiety attacks, refused to let history repeat! Sorry, the other forums just didn't cut it! Many of these ?drifters? may someday return!

I did go back and read several postings in the budgie forum and actually asked if there was any follow up from the OP. It could be the suggestions or advice is just not what they want or expect to hear. It's so nice to help someone and know the advice was taken. One day some of these people will be helping other members too. Pass the wisdom!

I hear ya.

It breaks my heart, but I force myself to read and reply, in the hope that we might in some way help the poor darling bird who sits caged and confused and poorly-cared-for...

I love this community (among many other reasons) that we just keep trying...

It is too bad that that happens so often. We can only do what we feel is the right thing; what the OP does is out of our hands. A response from the OP is always appreciated though.

It does seem like the considerate thing to do. I posted about maybe not making the best choice in hand feeding my baby Senegal and I appreciated all the responses I got. I kept the updates going, but little Peanut is good to go now so I think that thread has run its course lol.

Some are 'answer' shoppers - something quick and simple like remove batteries, wait one minute and reinstall!

Some are faced with 'Needed to see CAV' a week ago - worst case: lost parrot. To much pain, fear, or heartache to comment.

Some got the Parrot on the cheap and have nothing 'maybe pennies' to provide anything more that Wild Bird Seed. When reality of real world costs set in, they are gone.

And, there are very few ways to determine whether they will continue or ghost away!

The saddest part is the Parrot always suffers.

Then there is that very special group that have nothing to do other that play mind games, etc... For them, its just a game! When they get spotted or out themselves - STOP POSTING! That group, one would wish that they would disappear, but as long as someone will respond they will continue to play.

Ooops, Missed One: No one answer the question in the allotted five minutes! After all, the Forum Members are clearly paid and should response quickly! Guess what, the check is not in the mail folks! So, do not get your hopes up!

Um nope. I was just thinking about Peanut the other day, and marveling about how you went from "sure tragedy" to complete success by listening to the folks with experience. Keep updating us! ❤️❤️

I honestly don't care if people update after I've given advice...not that I do that much anymore:54:

I just get tired of answering the same questions over and over again or the people that don't care to listen. I deal with that enough at the shelter that I don't really care enough on the forums anymore. Plus, there's plenty of people I agree with on here that I don't feel a need to chime in:) I do like seeing updates from the people that I feel like have been around forever even if I rarely sign in.

I'll just continue my random snake posts and throw out an occasional bird update...not sure what category this puts me in...do I get my own???

Yes, it's discouraging but I agree that even a bit of advice in the event the OP will actually listen and help the bird involved. It is difficult when people get upset if they don't get the affirmation for what they were looking for, an easy way out.

I don't usually comment on threads where I have no experience tho...except if someone wants an ok stamp for not going to the av. I wish I had one here, any kind of vet is a luxury in Malawi, and have a lingering worry in the back of my mind for Nigel, what to do in case of emergency. However, am thankful in all these years overseas, I've not lost a bird to disease or accident.

Different people have different goals/wants/needs.

I've been a member of this forum for 5 years and use this place as a way to obtain and contribute to the communal knowledge of parrots. Once my goal in a thread is met, be it I communicated my thought, answered someone's question, etc, I don't see the need in constant posts on my end.

To be honest, as much I love birds, I tend to dislike bird people. Very emotional group from the ones I know.

Way of the world now, everyone thinks that everyone else 'owes' them something. Quick give my my answer now!
Vets, cannot afford them even if I wanted to go there, you fix it!
Yep absolutely heat breaking that it is the birds that suffer.
Thank you - what does that mean?

She's such a precious, happy go lucky little bird. At anytime she's willing to lay on her back in my hand and give eskimo kisses. She's really good with my five year old daughter too, but my daughter is good with her also.

She's completely weaned now, but I did the abundance weaning and I'm wondering if I should still feed her every morning like she's at an all you can eat buffet at the Golden Coral. She really likes garbanzo beans and won't touch a pellet. I don't blame her. But that's for a different thread I've been meaning to start.

Example from a different forum. Posted first post asking about a growth on side of a cockatiel face near beak. Photo shows a draining open area, nasty looking. Writer says he will do anything thing for his bird. Many people responded saying vet ASAP. Ok so he says he will take the bird right away and let us know. It's been about 10 days now and many people asking how the bird is doing. There has been no response leaving us to believe the worst. What would you think?
