I did a search before creating this new thread looking to see if anyone shared if the iRobot Roomba vacuum works at picking up seed or nut shells. A couple people have posted in the past that they like the Roomba and it works well. I just want to double check before seriously considering getting one for the purpose to clean up bird messes on a daily basis. For those that have the Roomba or a similar kind of robot vacuum, does it do a good enough job picking up bird messes for the price you pay?

Thanks!!!!!

I have had mine for quite a while and I love it. I haven't used it but once for bird mess, because it needs the beater bar and a couple of other parts replaced. Having used it extensively before, I am confident that it will work quite well.

I don't know where you live, but if you have a Bed Bath &a Beyond, their 20% off coupon will save you a fair amount.

I don't have one myself but I've heard from several birds friends that they really help. You still have to clean, but they seem to help keep up throughout the day. So for my friend with like 20 cockatiels, 6 Irns, a macaw, 3 eckies, and a conure, it helped her not look terrible to people who dropped by since once a day cleaning only lasts like 5 minutes. If you only have a few birds it might not be worth it.

I plan to get one when we move. With a new baby human on the way I like the idea of a robot collecting crushed pellets, feathers, dog and cat hair, dirt, etc even when I don't have time to whip out my big vacuum.

On our income, they are too expensive to justify any potential benefit. We got a Dyson Animal a few years ago and and I vacuum the whole place several times a week, so also having a $200+ robotic vacuum seems redundant when we already have a really good vacuum. We just have a little black and decker dust buster for daily messes. With only one parrot, it's more than adequate and only takes a few seconds to vacuum up his area every morning and since I only use it for his area, I get up everything, dried poops and all (that is one thing I would worry about with a robotic vacuum- it running through and spreading wet poo or food).

I have one and love it. Works well to go under the cage and get all the mess. It won't get 100% of everything (stuff that gathers around cage wheels and stuff) but it does an excellent job for what it is. If you bird poops on the Floor though, I wouldn't get one. My girl doesn't have the chance to poop on the bare floor so for us it's perfect to get all the pellet crumbs and seeds. The lower end models don't get good reviews because of the brush. Make sure you get one of the higher end models that has the rubber bars. It doesn't throw the seeds and stuff around. I believe mine was $600 on amazon. I wish I would have sprung for the one with the app though.

I have a Roomba. I did shell out about $500 for it, but I swear by it. Mine runs every weekday and without it, I'd be lost. I have a large collection of exotic animals, many of them with fur (plus two cats and a dog that shed nonstop, track litter... ugh)-- I've had it for about a year now, and it still runs fine. I've had to replace the brush and rollers a couple times but this is expected. It's survived running multiple times through Tegu poo (if you don't know what that is, it's a roughly 4.5ft lizard) and I just wipe it clean, you can remove the front turning wheel by pulling it out, etc etc. Very easy to clean. It was a worthwhile buy. I'd eventually like a new one.

Now they just need to invent a little robo that'll mop up wet poops and scour-off hardened ones... >.<

What type/ serie do you have?
I have been looking into them-(my mum wanted to make it a birthdaypresent)- and most of them came up complete and utter crap in terms of function, longlivety etc..

I have the iRobot Roomba 890. I did a lot of research when I was looking into them as the cost is a considerable amount, but I have not been disappointed in it. This being said, I have:
-Hardwood Floors
-I do not leave "things" on my floor, ie clothes, toys, etc that it could get caught up on.
-My floor plan is modestly small

I often see people complaining about it but I think a lot of people have unreasonable expectations and clutter. It's not a physical maid that will clean top to bottom and move around your crap kicked everywhere.
Mine turns on at 8:30am M-F via the app. I empty the bin about 2 times a week. It's always jammed full of cat hair and litter. It is the perfect height in that it fits juuusssstttt underneath my Critter Nation caging. It's more or less perfect. It doesn't get every little thing and I still have to regularly clean litter from inside my black hole mat for example but I went from having to vacuum every single day to every once in a while I have to break out the actual vacuum. It's not fantastic on huge 1 off messes or larger projects, for that you might as well bring out the standup, but for every day maintenance it seriously does wonders.
