It seems to me that poop off is the only product for cleaning bird droppings.
There is nothing else I know of. Does anybody have an alternative that is less expensive to this stuff?

Would anybody be interested in getting a better cleaning solution for something like $10 a gallon?

Is there any home made solutions for something that works well?

Thanks

I've never used it myself. For non- bird things, I always keep baby wipes in the house. They work great for getting messes out of the couch, off the floor, or off people.

For play stands and cages, usually I just use dish soap and water. I get little scrubbies from the dollar store that I can use once and throw away to keep from harboring germs. For stuff really stuck on the cages, I'll either let it soak a little while under a wet rag so it loosens up, or I'll do the same thing with a paper towel soaked in a little vinegar. I haven't found anything I haven't been able to clean off yet.

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
soapy water and a bit of "elbow grease"

Poop-off really is just a chemical to break the poop down to a more watery substance to make it easier to get off

I have heard many people swear by gain laundry detergent diluted in a spray bottle! Of course, it would have to be well rinsed! Also, I've never tried it, but since dawn soap is safe for emergency situations in cleaning a bird, I wonder how that would work as a cleaner!

Plastic paint scraper never used for anything but bird mess- about $1.00 (plastic because it won't chip powder coat or corrode)

Water/vinegar, mixed 50/50- pennies

Use the scraper to get off the big dried chunks, sweep those away, then spray the vinegar solution on what's left. Let that sit for a minute or 2 and it'll come right off (and be sanitized!). I clean Kiwi first thing in the morning so any poo or food on the cage and floor below has dried overnight, making it easy to scrape right up. I also got a steam cleaner a few years ago, and end up cleaning his cage thoroughly with that every few weeks in addition to daily/near daily cleanup with a scraper and vinegar solution.

Pet Focus Aviary and Cage concentrate is what I use now for the past 5-6 mos, it has lasted a long long time and works well. I dilute it smidge more than recommended to be safe b/c Perjo loves getting involved when I clean.

I use a handheld steamer. Works wonderful. It has little brushes that I can add tot the tip so I can scrub the cage grate, perches, and toys easily.

Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
Poop off doesn't work that good.

I use a steam cleaner.

Soaking poop in water and then using a rotating brush also works really good.

SO birdman, what do use?

I have been looking for a less costly alternative to poop-off. I found an enzyme based cleaner used in the medical industry for cleaning medical instruments of bio-matter like blood, tissue and certainly poop etc. It must be mixed with water to activate the enzymes. The mix ratio is 1:128 so one gallon of the stuff will make 128 gallons of cleaner. My initial tests showed that it performed better than poop off. I use about a gallon of cleaner every 6 weeks or so. And I agree that poop-off could be alot better.

I was testing the water to see if others have the same opinion about poop-off as I do and if there was any interest in finding a cheaper more effective cleaning solution.

Does not sound like there is much interest or that everyone is happy with whatever solution they are currently using.

Thanks, Dave
