So in looking for possible fids to share in an adventure with I've been suggested by multiple people pretty much every bird on the planet! I'm thinking of starting my search in September to give me time to sort myself out with work and home, and to build up some money for a more exotically priced bird if I become enamored.
I guess I'm looking for help trying to narrow my search radius. To give an idea I've been suggested by different people, both bird people and non-bird people to get; an African Grey, Eclectus, Pionus, Senegals, Caiques, Alexandrines, Kakarikis, Quakers, Pyyuhra conures, cockatiels (despite their conspiracy against me), Budgies and one suggestion I got for a lesser Vasa!
I'm trying to find a bird with a non-painful bite okay in an apartment, so I think a too is out of the question! I know I'm gonna get bit, I was just hoping for something less likely to rip me to shreds as I'm not the greatest with pain ruling out the sharp beaks like Eclectuses and I think they're too big anyway. My biggest experience was of course the green cheek conure but I'm not entirely convinced getting another one due to them being the same type of bird as Rio. Now a Green Cheek screech is probably the most I can handle noise wise, my neighbors knew he existed but they said to me they could barely hear him so he was never an issue for them.
I was kind of hoping temperament wise to find one with an almost cat-like temperament, by which I mean they come over when they want to but can do their own thing, but aren't going to go into attack mode if I come asking for a scritch. I'm always confused by the term "cuddle" with birds, do people actually hug them? Or does it just mean ones that want to show affection and like being handled all over?
My biggest worry is I work from 8 to 5 weekdays, aiming to go to the gym twice a week (not going so well) which gets me back home at about 7PM. Luckily I'm normally in on weekends so that's okay.
I'm just trying to narrow the choices down from the list above haha! There's some up there I know I'm not right for but I also know there's loads of different birds out there that I don't know of. I didn't know of may of them until this year!
