Okay so I've been thinking of adopting a large parrot after I aquire my own property (were talking years down the line) I've dedicated the past year to studying birds of all species and have to say I've become an enthusiast.
One question I have seen a few times is "can I take my bird to work"
But not in the way I am considering.
Il just throw my idea out there and more than anything I want to hear why I SHOULDNT do this. And solutions to those reasons if any.
I work in construction so I spend my work days outside from 7-4. If I where to install a large parrot safe cage on the back of my ute set up to be exactly like any cage you would see inside a home, would I beable to bring him with me. During travel I would keep him in the cab with me and I will install the cage in a way that the window in the back of the cab opens into the cage, as well as having a secure cage door installed. The cage will also be fitted with a weather proof section for the bird to retreat to at its own will and I wouldn't bring him on days with bad weather anyway.
During smoko and lunch I'd would bring him out for treats (after he has been harness trained of course) so he can have as much socialisation as possible. The cab of the ute will act as a secure space between the cage and outside to harness up.
My worries are, primarily loud noises of the site possibly spooking him, wild birds being curious and investigating the cage.
I feel like the pros are great, he gets to travel, he isn't left at home while I'm gone, he gets more social interaction, he gets to be outside his cage for an hour a day during these work hours.
The cons of course as I stated are loud noises from on the site, wildlife, other workers that may not know how to behave around a large parrot, dramatic changes in weather that where unforeseen.
Please share your thoughts and opinions with me on this idea.
P. S I use the term "him" subconsciously, i could very well adopt a she.
