I need help!!! Too sale or not too sale????

Hi My name is Cathy and I have two amazons, one is a red lored amazon who was very wild when I rescued him, he wouldnt come too me for six months, I couldn't handle him or anything. We worked together until he trusted me. Now I must say he is very loving and loves too be with me. I have now had him for about 6 years.

Well, 4 years ago I took in a blue front amazon (now 13 yrs old), and it was so funny he picked me and wouldn't let me leave the ladies house everytime I went to see him. He's very funny, loves attention, loves to talk will talk anyone out of the room.....The personality he has is unbelievable. Everyone that comes to the house gets such a kick out of him.

Well, now I am working two jobs, one is my own business, and I am feeling so guilty because i don't have the time to spend with them.

I know parrots are very social and need to be with the family but I am at my wits end, I hate not being here to give them attention.

Is it better for me to give them away or sell them to someone who can devote more time to them or do I keep them and try to work this out. The Blue Front HATES MALES and has attacked my husband and son, which also makes his time out limited...

The red lored which I will not give away or sale is ok with everyone and never flies off to attack, they are both clipped but can get a little flight.

Can you experts give me some advice here......My husband and son would love to see them both gone.....but I do care for them very much, but would part with one of them if I could find that perfect home and someone who lives close to me so I can see he has a good home and well taken care of.....

Hello Cathy, I'm not sure how re-homing one without also re-homing the other solves your problem of not having time for either, you ask if you should give THEM away, or sell THEM, then go on to say the Red Lord you will not sell or give away, if you wish to find a new home for the Blue Front there is a forum on here for "birds for sale or free to good home" if it is your wish to do so then that may be the place to post, as for the decision, that will have to be one that you'll have to make based on your cercumstances, I wish you luck.

Re: I need help!!! Too sale or not too sale????

In my personal opinion, if YOU aren't ready to part with the birds, doing so may harbor ill feelings towards your family for "making" you. I know it's heart wrenching to not spend the time you wished you could, however, maybe there's a compromise with juggling, work, family and fids. I'm sure you've probably thought of every angle, but, perhaps you could find a spot in your home and designate it "The birds spot", and each day spend a minimum of 1 hour of undivided attention to JUST the birds with NO interruptions from family. That being said, once bird time is over, the family should be able to enjoy time with you without bird interruptions, meaning the birds should be down for the night in their cages. Only you would know if something like that is possible. If you don't think that 1 hour is enough or the birds won't adjust because their so used to having much more time with you, maybe re homing them isn't such a bad idea after all. In regards to whether or not you should charge money to the new prospective owners is a very personal decision. I, personally do not see anything wrong with charging a reasonable fee, I mean, it IS your babies we're talking about here. On the flip side, if there is someone you know or have in mind that would be an awesome forever care taker for the birds, perhaps you could waive or lower the fees with the stipulation that you could have "visitation rights" to the birds. :-) This way, perhaps you're "having your cake and eating it too".

So you see, it's very difficult for any of us to help you make up your mind, because we don't really know all the in's and out's of your particular situation and I know through experience that no matter what, it's ALWAYS a very difficult decision to re home any of your beloved pets.

I wish you the very best of luck in your quest for the right answers and hope that whatever decision you make, it's the best for all involved and ultimately, the birds will have the best outcome.

Re: I need help!!! Too sale or not too sale????

Thank you for responding....Yes, i would feel terrible about giving them away or rehoming them. I did pick a smaller extra bedroom we have to try to put them in that room and kind of try to make it my own little kind of area with desk and computer and playgym and cages. I feel bad because it is my extra bedroom, so whoever spends the night with have to spend it with them.

This would make me feel a lot better because then if I am not in the room with them, they can atleast spend time together without worrying about Jasper (BF) attacking husband or son.

My hubby gonna have a fit because I am pulling up the carpet and keeping the hardwood floors.......Oh well, I can deal with hunting and deer heads, and stuffed fish he can deal with my parrot room, this kind of sounds fun now that you mention it.....
