Help identify my parrot

Hi can someone please help identify my parrot and let me know if it is a boy or girl.
The top of the head is orange going to red ( front to back)
It is mostly green, it has blue wing tips dark to light
It has a red tail, it has some red feathers that look like they are just coming through on it's stomach.

well I can tell you that is a Rose crowned conure. Now funny thing is many parrots it's impossible to tell without getting a DNA test done. But honestly does knowing the sex matter to you? Unless you're planning on breeding then there's no major benefit to you

Looking at those pictures I will say you NEED a bigger cage. At least 5 times the size and lots of varying natural wood perches. I would use a cage that size for finches at the most.

I hope you've researched keeping parrots before getting this one, there's a metric tonne of stuff you need to know when keeping one, just to keep them breathing. Read all of the sticky posts on the different forums to get an idea and definitely ask questions

Thanks, I am getting a much much bigger cage. But also want to get a partner for it too, the last owner did not look after it very well at all he was going to release it into the wild before I stepped in.
Looking at the pictures can you guess it's age? And would it need to be the same species to live with or can it live with a different sub type?

GRRRRRRRRR @ release it in to the wild. Few things get my dander up....like cruelty of that level. I took a bird in under the same threat and its been one of the best moves I ever made. The addition of my lil "throw away" bird brought so much love in to my home and it seems our home revolves around him.
Any reason why you think your birdie needs another bird for a friend? You can fill that role as well.

I wouldn't get another bird for them. No guarantee they'll get on and you may end up with birds out for each other's blood. they can easily adapt to living with humans and some will relish it, you just gotta put some hard work in at the start.

Good job on looking for a bigger cage.

I'll take a blind stab and say they look possibly about a year or 2 old, but they could also be 25! They change very little from when they get their feathers. Try checking the leg band, that should have the year they were born on it (not quite sure how to read the bands myself)

Thanks the leg band says 21 mba but I think that is just the import/quarantine number

I don't think you need another bird. What if they don't get along? Would you be willing to keep them in separate cages and give them separate time? The only time I would recommend getting a companion for a parrot is when the bird is stittish and not really bonded to you. This is the case with my budgie Bluebell.
