Hi all, first off please be in prayer for everyone in Florida. Me and my husband and Buddy took off on Thursday before it got really bad on the west side of Florida. We live in Pinellas Park Near the Tampa area. It took us 22 1/2 hours to drive from Florida to Louisiana because of the traffic. Our sweet Buddy was awesome on the car trip here. Would like to have a little advice on how to continue normalcy in Buddy's life since we will not have a home to come to when we go back because we live in a mobile home. We have a small car so we could not take our big cage with us only his portable cage. Now, he's used to being out of his cage most of the time on his open cage on a perch most of the day. Since we are staying at my sons house, we are doing the best we can to take him out as often as we can but we are stuck in a bedroom because my son has two cats. We spend as much time as possible with him in the bedroom and I am spraying him for his bath time even though he is used to taking a bath in a big glass bowl.
If you have any further advice for us to keep him stress free please share with me. God bless, Valerie

God bless you! I am so sorry for what you are going through. TBH as long as Buddy is with you that will pretty much suffice I expect. If they have their flock they adjust.
Take care

I'm so sorry you're in this position :(
As plum said, if you're are all together most of the time, that's going to matter the most. I've taken my IRN on the odd vacation - the difference in our situations being for us that it was a joyous occcasion, not driven out of necessity with angst and worry. Remember Buddy may well feel anxious from change, but not to the extent you do - he doesn't know what a hurricane can do or the severity of the situation, so if he's got you, he's reassured. Henry knew his travel cage, we covered and uncovered it at the same times as we did at home. Has Buddy got a comfort item/favouite thing? Henry had his favourite toy hanging from his travel cage.

Please keep in touch, there'll be a few of us around worrying for you and we look forward to the day when you can post as everything becomes okay. :60:

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
So glad you and family survived Irma intact. Sorry your home will not be habitable and hope you can arrange a new location as soon as possible. Seems Buddy will be in close quarters for a while, so giving him as much personal time as possible will be the best possible compromise.

Wonder if it will be possible to arrange some open-space time if the cats can be placed in an absolutely safe location? Would require the cooperation of all, perhaps during working hours? You'd need an absolutely foolproof method to secure the cats in another area such as another bedroom or bathroom?

I am holding you (and everybody facing Irma) in my heart. Please be safe and come home to us in one piece! Three pieces... you, husband and Buddy!
Congratulations on successful planning and evacuation!
