Moving with Parrots

My wife and I and our 8 parrots are considering moving from New York State to Florida in a few years, but I'm preparing now. We do not feel comfortable putting our birds on a plane, and and considering driving them down in a large van. They would be in cages or carriers with constant access to food and water. What type of van would be best? What would it need? How would we arrange for overnight accomodations (The parrots would have to remain in the van)? What other considerations do we have to make?

Mayb epossibly if you have any re;atives imbetween new york and florida you could maybe stay there with you parents. Sorry that is all the help I can give.

Air con would be a bonus to avoid any heat stroke or such

Ring around 1st and explain your plans to accomidation places see who can offer what

It is better where possible to travel at night as it causes less stress to the birds
you may also find accomidation easier if using it during day as bird noise wouldn't be such an issue

I hate to be negative but I would suggest even in a locked up facility having one person with the birds at all times
a: bird freaks out and injures itself
b : bird becomes Ill from stress
c: dodgy people trying to steal your birds

We all know how expensive our babies are and other not so nice people may try using that to their own advantage

About the air con please be extremely careful

Air Conditioners, Coolers - Air conditioning is safe for birds. In very hot and humid climates, air conditioning or other methods such as swamp coolers are a necessity. Just be sure that your birds are not directly in front of the air conditioning outlets where they may get a chill. If you use swamp coolers, they must also be cleaned periodically to prevent bacteria growth.

Good to prepare before the move. I recentlly moved but only 1 bird and not as far. You can check for pet friendly motels on the way. You should have an avain emergency kit if you do not already. Of course lots of food, refrigeration, cold fresh water from home and think about asking your vet this question also. Stress is contageous in birds!!
