This will be fun, I’m curious how you chose your parrot’s name(s)?
Unless of course it’s a rescue/rehome and came w/ a name.
I’ll go first. :)

Years ago we were watching the TV series ‘Amish Mafia’. (I know, Oxymoron) Amish and mafia just doesn’t seem right.
The main character’s name was Lebanon Levi. I immediately thought, wow Levi what a cool name. I had never heard of it other than the jeans.
So, I did a little research and found out that it is a biblical name. I should have picked up on that considering I was watching the Amish. Ha! :D

So, it’s cool and biblical... brilliant! :smile049:
I tucked it away for future use.

When we were getting closer to getting a parrot we started going over the names we liked. We couldn’t agree, until I remembered ‘Levi’. As soon I mentioned it, my husband said, OOO I like Levi. Done! :D

Please share your parrot’s name(s) history and meaning if it applies.
Thx

1 BFA- Kiwi. Hatch circa 98', forever home with us Dec. 08'
Kiwi came named. We did think of changing it, but were unsure at the time if he "knew" his name or not and decided not to change it. I've always thought it was a bit girly TBH. BUT he is kiwi green as well as a small, flightless bird, so it does suit him. Goofy name for a goofy bird, I guess! I'm kind of glad I didn't have to choose though. My newt is named "Mr. Newt" and my leopard gecko is "Leo" for LEOpard gecko and when I had a goldfish and a glass fish as a kid, their names were "Fish" and "Glassy". Ya, I'm not super creative with animal names.

You may already know this, when I did a search for the top parrot names, Kiwi was #1  I understand why, I think it’s a great name especially for a green parrot. :)

That’s funny. Keepin it simple & real.

When I was a kid, we had a turtle named murtle. Ha! Murtle the turtle, and a goldfish named Goldy, so I get it.

My boy came to me named Porker. That name could not stand.

I was tortured as to whether to rename or not. My partner pointed out we could name him Parker, which was similar sounding. And it stuck. It actually really suits him.

I choose the birds. Hubby has naming rights....it's how I'm allowed to choose the birds.

Our's have always come pre-named and we just continued to use their name! Reason: In all that they have been though, why not allow them to have at least that one thing!

The Rickeybird, 38-year-old Patagonian Conure
Thanks for asking!
There was a parrot in the bird store where I found him as a 3 month old chick... a Hahn's. He was much bigger than the Hahn's (and smaller than a B&G hen who was courting him). He didn't care much for the other birds but DID learn to say the Hahn's name... Rickey. "Rickey" and "Hello, Rickey" and "Oh, Rickey!" I had no idea he'd ever learn more words/names, so I left it as was. OH MAN, I HAD SO MANY CUTE NAMES IN MIND!!!! I had no idea he'd be a good mimic.
As the years went by, he developed such a reputation of rude and innapprprpriate behavior that people just started objectfying him as "the Rickeybird".
Funny thing, though... he STOPPED saying "Rickey"... hasn't said his own name in 20 years except when extensively prompted!

Remember how Lebanon Levi kept snapping at people to "STOP TALKING BACK!"?
Loved that show.

So any pet we get, everyone gets to put 2 names on a piece of paper, and someone draws one out. It just worked out that my first choice, Salty, got picked. Thank God, some of the names my sons wanted were soooo goofy or just plain wrong! Mater of fact I got to name Tinker, our Cairne Terrier, too! People always assume its short for Tinkerbelle. Nope, Just Tinker. Tinky for short. Poor thing she just had a growth removed from her mouth yesterday. Today, you'd never know she was feeling poorly. She is a good dog, that we adopted from the shelter, after our Jack Russels ran away on a 4th of July. No that was a real psyco dog! But thats another story on another forum.

Chicky's name was Ricky before, but I think she's a she so I tried to find something close : )

Opal (♂ Budgie) hatched 13 August 2017
Pearl (♀ Budgie) hatched 15 August 2017
+ an aviary of 16 other budgies! all hatched 2014-2017
Opal and Pearl: I tend to name budgies I get in pairs with similar themes (e.g. Kiwi and Mango, Orchid and Lotus, Jupiter and Neptune are all names of budgies I have had/have)... and I don't know, they seemed like such pretty names for a boy and a girl.:blue2::whiteblue:

Berry: I have always wanted a Galah and I always planned to name him/her Berry. Then I fetched this little girl, saw her cute orange cheeks, and just thought "Berry. She is Berry. My future Galah will just have to get a different name!":grey:

That’s brave, I’d be concerned the least desirable name would be chosen.

Sooooo, where did you come up w/ Salty?
C’mon inquiring minds want to know. ;)
