Finley my new baby Nanday who is now 4 months old does a behavior I'm not familiar with as Ollie my sun conure doesn't do this. When Fin and I are playing he will sometimes start flapping his wings full force and usually does this by my head. He'll get right up near my face (facing me) and start flapping but doesn't hit my face with his wings. He'll flap so hard the little one gets out of breath but quickly recovers. Then when he's done he slicks his feathers back really sleek like and looks around and then goes back to playing. He seems to do it when he's excited because it will likely be at the climax of our games or he has done it while I was on the phone (that was fun) lol. Do any of your birds do this or have done when they're babies? Finley is clipped and was when I bought him but he doesn't seem like he's actually trying to fly or go somewhere so I'm not sure it's related.:gcc:

Mango my gold-capped conure does this. Usually I expect to see it within a few minutes after his being let of his cage when I've gotten home, when he'd have been in around 8 hours already at that point. He'll get up to the top of his cage, hang off where his wings can extend fully without smacking into anything else, and then flap them very fast and intensely for about 5 seconds at a time, maybe 3 times like that in a row.

To me it seems like the equivalent of stretching or just jogging up and down when you've been sitting and literally "cooped up" all day.

My (flighted) birds have never done this, but I have seen clipped birds do this when they’re on a moving hand.

Hmmm none of these situations seem quite the same. Finely doesn't do it on my hand but near my face or while on me and he has not been cooped up at all. He's out of his cage at least 80% of the day unless he wants to eat or get water. Hmmmm.

My baby cockatiels would do this inside and on top of their cage while beginning to fledge. They'd hold on tight to the perch they were on or toy and start flapping full-force like they were going to take off any second and just go clear across the room but never took off. My full-fledged birds will also do this in their cage when they've been cooped up for a little while they'll beat their wings like this for a 10 seconds or so and then stop.

It's just something they do... pretty funny actually when it happens! Like a small-turbine plane getting ready to take off. I would imagine with Finley its just a happy birdy wing flap. He may grow out of it or maybe will keep doing it.

Imagine that but in your face! Lol.That sounds like it Fin. He holds tight to my shirt and flaps like he's going to fly to the moon and back any second. It's so cute. Thanks!
