I recently bought a very tiny cat scratcher that has a hamock for $10 at a swap meet. It has not been used before and still has all the tags from the pet store it was bought at. Iā€™m wondering if I can put it in my bird room and allow my birds to hop on it. I donā€™t have cats, so most likely if I canā€™t use it Iā€™ll give it to one of my friends who can. Does anybody know if itā€™ll be safe for my birds to play on it as iā€™m in the room supervising them?

If anybody has any opinions about this or answers I will be very grateful:01::orange:

I would think it depends upon the type of material... if it's likely to catch a nail, I wouldn't risk it. Another thought... the birds will probably chew any exposed wood, and I worry it might not be non-toxic. On balance, I, The Queen of Paranoia, would probably not use it...

Good for you, for asking, and being so loving and careful!

Iā€™m trying to be really careful with this. There is no exposed wood at all on it, but it does have some jute rope for the scratching part and then the type of fabric that happy huts are made out of for the hamock part, Iā€™m scared they might tear up the fabric. I always sit in their bird room for play time and when itā€™s not play time as well but Iā€™m always in the bird room when they are playing on the various playstands and with the toys. I had one bird breeder tell me he uses cat scratchers for his macaws and amazons but it kinda worries me

Iā€™m sorry I didnā€™t reply sooner. I tried posting the picture but oddly I wasnā€™t able to. Although, I had a neighbor who asked me for the cat scratcher for her 6 cats so I have decided to just buy my flock a big stand that I can hook toys to, Iā€™ll either buy one or make it myself. :orange:

under supervision, I'd say it's safe to let them interact with it. Without a pic it would be hard to tell but as long as it isn't toxic I don't see why not. The worry with hammock type stuff is the threads getting chewed on and pulled out where they can get their little beaks or feet stuck in them.

I understand the fear about the hammock. That is why i gave it away. I was just getting a bit paranoid and kept thinking about it so i decided to give it to someone who could use it a littke more :01::orange:
