Finley with sometimes be scared and defensive and eventually aggressive out of the blue. He screams and backs up hunched down like he wants to bite and sometimes he has but I try to just give him a break so that doesn't happen. Other times he does the same thing but backs up onto his back with his feet in the air. What is that about? How is that good for defense? He is so weird. I'm not sure why he does that, he also does that when he's on my playing and I tell him no and stop him from doing said action he'll scream and back up onto his back like he's scared and then start playing on his back from there. Anyone else's bird do that or is mine broken? I'm bringing it up because Fin is having a really bad day. Yesterday was pretty good but he seems to be scared of me and getting defensive a lot like I described above (mostly on his cage) but at the same time wants to play and hang out. So weird...and confusing.

Oh and this kind of behavior comes out of nowhere. It's not just something that happens every time I do a certain thing or pick him up from a certain place.

I don't see how he would be doing it but there is a defensive posture I've read of where birds go on their back with their feet in the air, it's sort of a last ditch do or die. But like I see I don't understand why he would be doing it

It just dawned on me that I forgot Fin is still a baby.

Is the behavior happening roughly at the same time each day? If so it could be he's throwing a tired tantrum. Unlike Cheddar Fin doesn't nap during the day so it could just be over-tiredness making him stroppy with you. Could you possibly make his morning wake up later? Or maybe even give him a quiet spot during the day for an hour or 2 so he can have a nap? Not sure where he sleeps but if he can be placed somewhere else for an hour or so during the daytime in a room with the curtains drawn and maybe even a cover on the cage he could get a few ZZZ in to hopefully improve his evening mood

Unfortunately, Fin already gets 14 hours of darkness which is one longer than Ollie and he sometimes acts like this right in the morning. Inhave tried giving him a nap time but he just screams his head off in his sleep cage or regular cage. WasSo don't think he's tired. By the way this behavior came out of no where about a month ago. So so so weird.

I'm starting to think he's just very very hormonal because just now he screamed at my hand and so I didn't move it so I wouldn't scare him and make him bite and he came over and regurgitated to my hand.

I tried to get his weird behavior on video and I only managed to sort of get it. He was much less scared and aggressive here. He'll usually scream when I ask him to step up and back away on to his back and then bite. He's so weird I really don't get it but I hope someone can identify this even if it's only showing a little of the behavior. Keep in mind about 70% of the time he readily and eagerly steps up with none of this behavior. I understand he probably didn't want to step up just then but I pursued it for the video but I might have just come back later normally. If he screams backs up into his back unless I have to I try to let him calm down for a second and he usually steps up fine after that.

I can't believe at 6 months it's hormonal

to me from that video he just appears not to want to step up and is then getting irate because you're telling him to step up and then tempers are flaring up, you can see where as the video goes on your movements become faster. Hopefully others have more insight on it

Never had a conure, but the on the back posture is a play time one, from what I have seen. Offer him a footie toy next time he does this. It might be the begining of his hormonal flush, but he is pretty young for that; Or as a adolesent parrot, he is stretching his boundaries, and just may not want to be picked up at thst moment. Give him 5 or 10 minutes, and come back to try again. You can also use a bit of treat that he can see to get him to step up. Verbal praise when he does it right away, too. Then you can eventually get rid of the treat.

We'll he plays on his back constantly but it seems like hes mad because he does bite and scream most of the time in this scenario. He also regurgitates and sometimes tries to make love to my hand (which Ollie has yet to do). He might very well be hormonal. I will just leave him next time but it's confusing because he at first seems like he wants to play so then when I do play alone he screams and bites like he's scared to death like 20 seconds in.
