Hello everyone,

ive really been getting into this site and seeing what people have been posting, even people blogging daily on there little chicks.

So, Kiwi is now 10 weeks old! Already growing so fast!
My little Ki-Ki is better daily with me, still not to keen coming up to me straight away and has a little hissy fit now and again, but once she has "stepped up" onto my finger which she learnt within the first hour of having her she is perfectly fine, she now happily takes treats off of me and will gladly sit on my shoulder most of the time!

Her flying, has actually amazingly improved after seeing the avian vet, she can now fly and land on what she wants without trouble, still she can be a little lazy and prefer being taken somewhere ahah!

I can now stroke Kiwi from head to tail, even ruffle her feathers by her neck and front and only now and again I get a little hiss but then is fine once I say no and point my finger at her, then she goes back to normal allowing me to stroke her ahah (Its like she falls asleep and then forgets im holding her)

Ive noticed since day one of having her, she doesn't bite me at all... she goes to, to show as a warning but its actually her tongue just tickling me aha! but still I have to nip it in the bud, I point my finger and say no and straight away she is back to her chirping self, letting me stroke her!

Last night, she was eagerly walking up and down my arm, and when I called her she actually came to my shoulder and sat right next to my ear, to which she started to attack my earing... now that is a weird feeling ahah!
We was even having a whistling competition last night!

I know people say take your time with your pet, but honestly Kiwi's progress is amazing already for just a week, just shows taking your time to find the right bird means a lot and not just buying the first one that you see!

The only thing I would like to ask, is that as I mentioned above... Kiwi has moments of hissing, obviously I don't want her scared but wondered is there anything else that I can use to make the bond, well... perfect?

I'll be posting pictures of her soon!

Time! Also, remember, if you are doing something that is annoying her, she has the right to tell you!

Obviously she has the right to tell me, which is very rare as I know when things upset her etc :)

I just didn't want her being scared when she goes to jump on my finger as that's when she does it now and again, I just didn't know if there was other ways of distracting her so she isn't as scared now and again

I'm jealous!

No, I'm not; don't wanna be a hater.

Female 'tiels are great little birds. I hear that often. Ki-ki sounds like a darling.

Its just how quickly she has responded to me, with her being an Avery bred and with her parents until I got her at 9 weeks old.
I'm not going to lie, I'm the impatient type... so I rather happy about her progress especially with how quickly her progress is!

Rio (Yellow sided conure) sadly no longer with us
sounds like you and her are the perfect match!

me and Tiels have a checkered past (clearly the species decided I was an enemy)

You and her clearly are understanding each other fast, she knows she can tell you to stop something she dislikes without resorting to bites and you no that you can tell her you need to do something

I know I am so pleased, especially when she goes to put her beak near my hand, I just say 'no biting' and straight away she stops and looks at me, like... "What, seriously mum" ahah!

Owned a few cockatiels as a kid, the hissing will eventually go away... don't even worry about it. If it's not a bite then they just have their guard up, it will drop soon enough.
