How to make parrot stop being suddenly aggressive towards me?

Hi,

I have an Alexandrian parrot that is seven years old. I got him while he was a baby at Petco and I was 13 at the time. We used to get along great and I taught him how to say many words but he was never the touchy feely type and he never liked being pet even while being held. I could tell he was always uncomfortable when he was outside of his cage.

He would always let me take him out of his cage and hold him but recently he has been having none of that. We were at a point to where he would actually let me pet his stomach while I held him, but now he will not even let me take him out of his cage.

Today was the first time that he actually bit at me while I was putting my hand in his cage and asking him to step up. He went for my thumbnail and for a second I thought he had cracked the nail but he didn't and it was fine.

I'm not sure why he is acting like this, but I have noticed that he seemed to gradually like me and my family less and less after his trips to the vet.

I give him almonds everyday for treats and I feed him fresh veggies for breakfast and I talk to him daily but he seems to have stopped liking me. :(

Any suggestions to what I can do to improve our relationship?

Try like blazes to handle your guy as much as possible, but stay away from body areas; head and nick is fine. Why? Two things - Ringnecks have a tendency to loose their tameness rather quickly, and touching a parrot, esp a mature one, on areas other that the head and neck can promote mating behavior. Try also to train him to step up to a hand held perch for those times when he is grumpy and will be a bit bitey.
