Pineapple & Sunshine--Gray/wildtype male cockatiels
Hey everyone, my brother and I are in a bit of a sticky situation. He bought a toy for his Quaker parrot, Happy, recently. It's a very nice toy, but there's one problem. He wasn't aware when he bought it that it's been dyed in a colorful and artificial dye. I warned him about how these artificial flavors and colors can be very bad for birds, unless the wrapper actually tells you that it's been dyed with vegetable juices. I wish I could've found more of those toys and shown him.

Since it's far too late to return it to the store, I'm wondering if it'd be possible to rinse the dye out thoroughly with the hose? I don't want to toss this expensive toy in the trash if I can fix the problem.

You could boil it in a pan of water with a little vinegar and then rinse if off real good in the sink and let it dry for a few days... I had one like that and this what I did.

I have purchased "safe" bird toys before, but I still do the following if there is dye on the toy. I never trust what is written on the labels.
I boil the kettle, pour the boiling water over the toy, leaving it in the water for a while. Repeating this over and over again until the dye has disappeared. Let the toy dry completely, say for a day or two, then repeat again, just to make sure all the dye is gone.
Hopefully other members will assist you as well.
