There just isn't much activity here. I was hoping to find other Vasa owners, but haven't had any luck. Sort feels like I'm the odd one out since Vasas aren't like other parrots, so I can't really relate to other parrot owners.

I understand, maybe that was was I really like your stories so much- I've never met one anywhere.
Have you found a group so you will not be alone anymore?
(keeps fingers crossed)

Unfortunately, I have not found any other groups that have Vasas. I am a member on Avian Avenue, but no one there has a Vasa either, and the members that did are no longer active, so I find it hard to relate to other bird owners. It's been an uphill battle trying to find all I can about this species.

I can imagine how you feel (I started with my grey in a small backwater with no internet for decades and two extremely dated librarybooks ...) it is really scary and sometimes depressing to have to figure it all out on your own.
Even if you leave now- I think you did great for this special needs fellow, and you are a hero!

Thank you. I will keep my account and hope somewhere down the line I come across another Vasa owner.

So now that you’re staying, I’m very interested in what Vasas are like! I’ve never seen one before and they seem fascinating. What is Java’s personality like and how do Vasas differ from other parrots?

:) I was looking in the dutch forums, but no luck (yet).
They are really interesting parrots, but I think mostly kept by breeders- so finding one that lives inside, with people might be really challenging indeed.

I am sorry you were feeling so isolated - that cannot be much fun.

A few weeks ago, I ran across a Vasa owner who lives in Japan, and I sent her a message so we could connect, but her response was less than friendly, that she had no desire to connect with me, even if we had similar birds. So, that kind of put me off a bit. She never asked a single question about me, she just assumed.

Ugh... weird person. Maybe she was mad she was not "the only one"?
(some people get like that)

Probably, but it's her loss. We could've exchanged ideas and stories, and maybe even learned more about our birds.

aw such a shame. I actually was trying to look for one at one point as I've read they're very quiet (for a parrot) and on the whole very friendly funny birds. It's just finding breeders that's the trouble

For the most part, Java is pretty quiet but he's noisy at the same time. He's very passive, and it's too early to say whether he's friendly since he's very untrusting of people and most things, but that could be because of his upbringing. Even with me, he isn't fond of being touched unless he wants me to rescue him from the floor.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Thanks for staying, Brittany! Hopefully other Vasa parronts will join, meanwhile perhaps you will find discussions of other species applicable to Java.

Stay with us ;) I love rare species! I can ask on Polish forum, but I doubt if someone in my country has a vasa parrot. I saw them at the zoo but not as pets

Me too! They're so cute. Tell us all, and maybe one of us will be inspired to add one to our flock and then you won't be alone anymore.
