Bird Box discussion...(spoilers)

SO I watched Netflix's "Bird Box" because friends said I'd like it and because of the media hype.

I found it to be a better version of "the Happening" and I swear to god it's like someone just saw that movie from a decade ago with Mark Wahlberg and thought, hmmm, I could do that better. (not hard, I could do better with sock puppets.)

One could even argue it's the same antagonist, but for the drawings the one guy exposed inside the house as the babies were born.

The only redeemable quality in the movie was the fact that the birds in the film especially parrots are the true front line of saving humanity. Just like real life.

The shortcomings in this though are:
1) there was not enough on screen time for the obvious stars or the film. (The title is named after them). I understand that Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich are box office draws but the main protagonists needs more 'on screen time'. Keeping them in a box was suspenseful but it prevented the movie from living up to it's full potential.

2) the birds aren't listed in the credits, I checked other movie sites and no one says if they were CGI or real birds, and if so what there real names or character names are. I'm sure it was a mix of both, but I say give credit where credit is due to the real heroes of the story. I mean not just any thespian can detect evil on an ethereal plain nor act it out with such nuance as the little parrots did.

3) The parrots should have concluded the movie. Many of the people who didn't like the film commented nothing was actually resolved. Obvioulsy the battle tested Parrots should have taken on the evil and vanquished it. That would have made a more plausible and satisfying ending for all.

Thank god I have two conures to protect me. Should this actually happen.

I saw it (youtube) yesterday, after the "netflix issues warnings" made the news everywhere (people are insane!).


One of my friends commented:

"How is this (blindfolded in trafic) any different from all those idiots only watching their phones?"
... he had a point!

I think the birds are cgi other than some points in the cage maybe. There's some parts where they clearly appear to be cgi (when they're in the box on the river and she's giving them water, they look very clearly unnatural) but we really don't see the birds that often

I've been bad lately about watching everything for free online and haven't actually paid my Netflix or Amazon Prime bills for months and haven't missed a thing, but I can't find this anywhere!!! So I'll have to chuck $7.99 and turn my Netflix back on now!!!

I was so worried about the birds the whole time lol....and the ending was kind of crazy...just saying...almost like something from The Twilight Zone.

I'm so glad someone made this thread!! Finally saw it the other night and LOVED it!

There were some things though that I agree with....

For the title 'Bird Box' I feel I hardly saw the birds at all, really she couldn't have found or fashioned together a small travel cage to take them in, rather than a small box like sardines? In the real world they would've been dead without sufficient space to move or oxygen. And that ROUND cage she found them in the supermarket, call me snobby but that cage made me cringe. They were very pretty birds though but needed way more screen time.

When Gary put them in the freezer I about died -- but glad to see the concern for the birds from the other survivors of the house.

I was SO hoping to see the 'creatures' but the best we got was some drawings from creepy Gary. Maybe not seeing it was part of the mystery. Sort of like a boggart (from harry potter) let loose in the world and out to haunt people and drive them crazy.

I'm a huge fan on Sarah Paulson (main character's sister) and thought her 'seeing the creature' scene while driving was so intense and freaky that basically set off the tone for the rest of the movie. Awesome acting all around.

I thought it was unfair of dying pregnant friend Olympia to make main character PROMISE to keep her baby safe if she doesn't make it. Isn't this situation hard enough with ONE baby, how could she ask that of another person amid all the chaos? I thought that was not fair at all for her, yet she did keep her promise ot keep her baby safe and alive.

I was almost sure the 'refuge' at the end was a trap but low and behold , a center for the blind! It hits home for me because I'm visually impaired, turns out the blind ones are ultimately the immune ones. And they have parrots there. I would stay and never leave!

It was the perfect mix between A Quiet Place and The Happening. Suspenseful the entire time! Highly recommend anyone else to watch.

lol, I am just annoyed at all the inconsistencies - how wil you live/survive for years if you cannot farm or hunt? How do tropical birds in a box with holes survive a trip for days in a bouncy boat? (as well as ending up in the water) Just to name a few glaring ones.

I totally forgot that they capsize, there's just no way that the birds would live after all that in real life.

ChristinaNL these aren't normal birds, these are movie birds. Everyone knows movie characters are inundated with strengths and abilities that surpass mere mortals. OBVIOUSLY the parrots would survive a quick dip in the water and even swim to shore if need be because they are movie birds. Stop being silly.

LOL, oh right....sorry, silly me again.
Movie birds are always superheroos, how could I forget.
