Did you try warm water + baking soda or maybe something like poop-off? I know they say not to get leather wet, but the poop was wet at some point, so I can't imagine water making things that much worse...I dk if you can use poop-off on leather, but you might test it on part of the chair that is less visible and see if it leaves any discolored areas once dry.

thought: I don't know what is in the stuff, as I have only ever used it a few times in my life, but you might look into saddle soap...Do not use it if it has a bunch of chemicals or produces fumes---I have no idea what is in it, so you would want to check into that thoroughly before using it in your bird's air-space. I can't remember if it has a scent or anything....I just know it exists for cleaning horse saddles.

Sorry to hear that. You know the bird pooped on the chair intentionally, right? Iā€™m guessing the culprit was a quaker. Be careful about the clean up, donā€™t want to discolor the leather, I would use a polishing wax and soft cloth specifically sold for use on fine leather.

I would avoid any kind of detergent based cleaners, including Poop-Off unless you want a permanent scar on your chair.

Just make sure that if you use any sort of polish that it doesn't produce fumes---for instance, I am fairly certain that shoe-polish fumes could easily kill a bird.

Saddle-soap would be my first choice, but for that you need to wet the leather. Also, an item of furniture may have a top-coat applied to the leather and if water penetrates that it will probably discolour. You really need to know what kind of finish is on the item in order to clean it properly. Can you contact the manufacturer? Or is there a leather supplies shop nearby? (Tandy Leather etc?)

If the chair could use an overall spruce-up, then work in some good leather conditioner and use it to loosen the poop. It could be that the urates in the poop have leached out some of the leather's colour. If that's the case, then *carefully* choose a shade of boot polish (or commercial leather dye, depending on how valuable the furniture is) that matches your leather and dilute it with some warmed leather conditioner. Work it in quickly and lightly, then wipe off. Buff with a soft cloth.

Remember that adding dye to leather is like writing on blotting paper with ink. A *tiny* amount of dye is all that's needed and the leather will suck it up very quickly. Be careful and only add very small amounts. You can always add more, but if you make a dark spot, it won't come out.

Thank you, Trish! Excellent advice from a genuine leather crafter.

RIP Gandalf and Big Bird, you are missed.
Am I the only contrarian urging against defiling the artistic nature of companion parrots? Think of how many identical chairs were produced in cookie-cutter fashion? Laura, you have a potential masterpiece, no two chairs can be pooped on in identical manner! Savor the originality, your friends and family will be impressed!

ROTFLMAO!!! Scott, that was my first thought as well! I don't exactly *leave* poop lying around my house, but after wiping the poop away, I don't always remove the mark left behind. I reckon it's kinda like a 'Parrots live here' sign. :22_yikes:

But I was lucky to catch it when I did...of course it's the only " nice " piece of furniture I have ... Ugh

The higher the quality of the item, the greater the likelihood of having a Parrot redefine its shape or poop on it.

For fine woods, I have used 'Baby Wipes" with great success. Fold and place over the dry poop. The poop will become soft and can be simply wiped away. Works with Amazon poop.
