do your dogs eat the bird poop?

I have noticed lately that the "corner : of the cage that Remington prefers to use as a bathroom has been cleaner than usual~ until i spotted the dogs licking the sides and seed catcher i thought maybe he was becoming tidier...eeewwww
so now tell me, is it going to harm my dogs?

I have a friend this happened to and the dog came down with diarrhea really severe so I would try to arrange things so this does not happen.

Hi yes it can be harmful to your dogs. I am that friend who Spiritbird referred too. My dogs did the same and became very ill with diarrhea and had to go to the vet and take medicine for a 2 week period. The vet said it is not good or safe for them to eat the droppings as it is a bacteria and can kill them or hurt them seriously if not treated. I now have to watch them when my african grey is out of the cage. By the way your dogs are beautiful. Take care, Critterman

oh great...wonder how long this has been happening~
My dogs are my babies as well and i would hate for them to get sick, now i
need to figure out a way to keep them away, especialy when im in a different
part of the house

Our dogs also have been know to ingest a dropping or two. They spend quite a bit of time "snuffling" under perches, swings and boings. We suspect the droppngs are a mistake because our dogs tell us, "Sometimes you get a pellet."

Your welcome.. I put up baby gates from my kitchen to the living room and from the front entry to the living room when I am not home.

yep i have a gate too, but i would prefer trying to modify the cage somehow because the dogs are gated in the laundry room when the bird is out

My dogs don't eat the poop, just the pellets that get chucked out the cage lol.

I can imagine this will be difficult for you because Remington must have such a huge cage......

Thinking about Cal's huge cage, I would probably get some bird safe wooden boards or acrylic boards and sort of block off the area by putting them inside the cage via the dirt tray. Cal's cage is on wheels so this is possible. If she had a cage that touched the floor, I'd just prop bigger ones up against the cage and spend time teaching my border collies not to go near.

Difficult one!

Yes he has 2 huge cages, the biggest one in the living room isnt as big of a problem as the one in the family room, especially since that's where we spend most of our time...its usually the "big" poop first thing in the morning that can get on the sides/seed catcher part

My Abby eats it sometimes gross but nothing has happened to her yet thank god my dog also eats my cats shit she’s freaking disgusting
