Hi so i bought an alexandrian parrot about a week ago and his name is kiwi
He knows me pretty well and all
And eats treats from my hand
But will never do anything else if i get close i get a bite
If i try to even toutch his beak i get bet
And if i place the treat in the middle of my hand ill get bit from my finger
The only way he will eat a treat is if a put it in the last little bit of my finger
He is 6 monthes old
How do i make him more tame and accepts me ?
Please give me hope

Hello and welcome!

Your problem is not an uncommon one. What you should know about birds is that they are not like dogs or cats that want to be pet, cuddled, etc. I tell people they are a lot more like horses... they want their space respected, they want to be able to see you approaching and you earn their trust with lots of patience and treats. You will never earn their trust if you continue to try to touch him so stop trying to pet. Instead work on building that bond.

Highly recommend you read this thread -- Tips for Bonding and Building Trust

Thanks i read it
But i have one problem
I can get my hand inside the cage
And give him treats
But only if the treat is in the finger and close to the parrot
If its in my palm he will just bite
And i can get him to step into a wooden peice thingy
But if i offer my finger he will fly off
So i never open his cage ever for anything other then a Quick treat then close it
Ant btw if the parrot fly what do i do
Do i catch it or just wait
Becose of i wait he will just sit on top of somwthing and just stare if i offer a treat when he is outside he will run to another thing he can get on top of
Help

You need to let him warm up to you. You haven’t had him that long. It takes a lot of time and patience. Don’t try to grab or approach directly. Talk to softly and get him used to your movements first. Only reward when training, never during or after a bite.
