Top 10 most quintessential parrots

I’m looking to do a new art series of 10 drawings of the most “quintessential” parrots. Just wanted the bird communities opinions on what those birds would be. For example, budgies are a popular parrot, but what color? Or macaws, what species? What do you all think? Thanks for the help! everyone!: blue1:

Re: Top 10 most quintessential parrots

I would think the common green and yellow budgie (ie. the native colouration) would be the best bet. I would *hope* to see Alexandrines on your list, especially since Alexander the Great was supposed to have owned one and caused the species to be named 'Psittacula eupatria' ('Little parrot from the good land'). CAG should be there too, since it's (I think) the earliest known domesticated parrot. I think the SC2 is everyone's image of a cockatoo and the Hyacinth macaw is representative of the macaws. Beyond that... I dunno! I s'pose it depends on where you live to decide what's 'quintessential' and what's not.

You got to have 1 of the hot 3 amazons represented.
Blue front, yellow head/double yellow head, yellow nape.

Re: Top 10 most quintessential parrots

What a neat idea! I agree - the green and yellow budgie is the best color When someone says “parrot” - the first image that pops into my head is a macaw on a pirate shoulder so a macaw should definitely be there. Lovebirds is a commonplace term used to describe cuddly behavior in people, so maybe a pair of lovebirds would be appropriate. Just random thoughts

Blue budgie, blue Quaker, blue fronted Amazon, blue ring neck, blue parrolet, blue and gold macaw!
Laurasea likes the blue! So I'd love to see a study in blue

Re: Top 10 most quintessential parrots

The normal gray or lutino cockatiel and the blue or green budgie come to mind for me! As for macaws, I feel like the most common are blue and gold but I see a fair few green wings as well.

Re: Top 10 most quintessential parrots

Thanks all. Here’s kind of what I’m thinking:

1. Budgie, yellow/green
2. Pair of lovebirds, peachface (these seem the most common)
3. Grey cockatiel
4. Green cheek conure
5. Pair macaws, blue and gold and green wing
6. Amazon, double yellow head
7. CAG
8. Pair, male and female eclectus
9. Cockatoo, surfer crested
10. Still up in the air between an IRN and an alexandrine. IRNs are more popular/well known in the US (I think blue is the most common color?) but I’m not sure if that applies worldwide where I think alexandrines are more popular.

These are going to be more “busts” of the birds. I’m doing these in my pattern art like these 2 of a shoebill stork and major Mitchell cockatoo (sorry my stupid website won’t let me link my own images so I don’t know how else to share besides linking to IG. These are MY original drawings though):

I will! I'll probably link back to my IG since I don't want to put my art on Imgur and can't seem to link it from anywhere else
